This is why I paint. This is my focus. I approach each painting as a sacred object. I do not create. I interact. I try to catch glimpses. A great deal of the process involves removing paint rather than adding more; much like lifting a veil. In the end, I can only hope for a painting to be a glimmer; a hazy symbol of the divine.
My current series of hand studies is fertile ground for this endeavor.
I have always been fascinated with hands, both on a technical level and an emotional one. Hands have the power to express what cannot be spoken, to heal as well as to kill. They are a fundamental part of what it is to be human.
