Scotland 2003 |
We visited Scotland for our second time in June of 2003 as a special vacation treat in celebration of our fifth wedding anniversary. Nine of the twelve nights of our vacation were to be in different areas than we had visited on our first Scotland visit in 1999. The photos below are organized by the locations covered during each part of the vacation (or "holiday," as the Scots would call it!)... |
PART ONE: From Glasgow International Airport through our first two nights in the wee village of Little Dunkeld. |

Doune Castle- a "must see" for castle lovers, with a whole lotta room to roam! |

Yes, this is indeed a REAL automobile. NO, it is not the car that we rented!!! |

Pat enjoys the view from atop one of Huntingtower Castle's high corner towers |
Elcho Castle, another of the excellent selection of castles to be found in the Perth & Kinross area |

One of the more unique castles we visited, Lochleven Castle is situated on an island in (of all places) Loch Leven |
Stacey stops to say hello to two of the island's denizens. The black lab, Maggie, was a sweety. The yellow lab, Cassie, was a MOOCH! |

Inner courtyard of Lochleven Castle. Do you get the impression we like castles?!?! |

Looking down the road in Little Dunkeld. We stayed at the cozy Waterbury Guest House (pointy tower) |

Look, it's not a CASTLE!!! This antiquity is the famed and lovely Dunkeld Cathedral, whose attractive landscaped grounds on the shores of the River Tay are popular with tourists and locals alike |
Dunkeld Cathedral has a treasure trove of historical goodies, including the casket of the powerful, violent, clergy-murdering "Wolf of Badenoch," the tomb stone of legendary fiddler Niel Gow, and the seal of notorious protestant suppressor, Cardinal (and Chancellor) David Beaton |
