PORTLAND HEAD LIGHT PHOTOS
This light has guided many a ship through troubled waters
Originally constructed in the 1790s of light rubblestone and lime to save money, the lighthouse has undergone many changes. The tower has been changed several times, being lower, then heightened only to be lowered again and raised again. Today the isolated spot where Longfellow wrote his famous lighthouse poem is in the middle of Fort William Parks. It is one of Maine's most popular tourist attractions.
