OTHER INTERESTING LIGHTHOUSES
PHOTOS AND GIFS

I visited these lights when I lived on the east coast:

West Point Lighthouse, Prince Edward Island, CA

Prince Edwards Island's tallest functioning Coast Guard Lighthouse. Includes a museum where you can examing pictures and artifacts depicting the history of lighthouses and seafaring in general. There is a small hotel with nine rooms and licensed seaside dining room. For more information click on the lighthouse.

Cape Hatteras Light, North Caroline

the ultimate symbol of lighthouses and a very popular lighthouse. It is the tallest lighthouse in the U.S. standing over 200 feet tall. The current tower, with it's black and white stripes, was built in 1870 and fitted with a revolving first-order fresnel lens. Today, a revolving airport style beacon is in the lantern. An earlier 95 foot tower, built in 1803, was underpowered and called the "worst light in the world."

Due to beach erosion in the area Hatteras is fighting an ongoing battle with the sea. As of Fall 1995 .... Hatteras remains in grave danger from wave erosion. Although there are plans under way to move the structure the tower is currently open for climbing, and the view from the top is what you might expect!

Mystic Lighthouse

Mystic Seaport Lighthouse

The lighthouse is not the main attraction of the New England coastal village. It is just a replica of Brandt Point Light which is located on Nantucket Island. The replica lighthouse is set in the middle of a seaport village town which has tall ships tied up to the docks and many Museums with exhibits depicting artifacts from whaling ships and seafaring lifestyles. There are many shops which offer seafaring items and artwork depicting whaling ships. You can also visit a planetarium and a seaquarium in the village.

New London Ledge Lighthouse

New London Ledge Lighthouse

This light is an oddity: a three-story French Second Empire mansion dropped into the middle of New London Harbor. The light was built in 1909, when the older New London Light was deemed inadequate. The small cylindrical tower which rises from the mansion's roof originally housed a fourth-order lens which rotated in a pan of mercury, but this was replaced in 1984 with an automated beacon. New London Ledge Light has been reputed to be haunted ever since the 1930's. The keeper then lept to his death on the ledge when his wife ran away with the captain of the Block Island ferry. Restoration is under way, with plans to establish a museum. The light can be viewed from Ocean Beach, or from the Block Island Ferry, which passes nearby.

Arizona's Lighthouse

A Lighthouse in the Arizona desert

"A recent 7.0 magnitude earthquake near the small town of Oljeto in northeastern Arizona displaced a large amount of rock from the upper portion of one of the monoliths in Monument Valley exposing an ancient lighthouse . . . .
