Chapter 19 Notes

Davids goal as king was to unite the country and make it strong.

He used an army to conquer new lands, unite the people, and build up confidence.

He made Jerusalem the capital of his new kingdom. (Also known as the Holy City and the City of David.)

He brought the Ark of the Covenant to the tent of meeting at Jerusalem.

David coveted his soldier, Uriahs, wife named Bathsheba.

He ordered Uriah to the front lines so that he would be killed.

After Uriah was killed, David married Bathsheba.

God was very unhappy with Davids sin.

God sent Nathan to David to tell him a story about his sin.

David soon realized his sin and repented for it.

God forgave David but told him his newborn son would die.

The newborn baby died as God had told David although David pleaded with God for his life.

It is believed that David wrong some of the Psalms in the Book of Psalms found in the Bible.

David wished to build a temple for the Ark of the Covenant.

God  promised that this temple would be built and that his kingdom would last forever.

Davids son, Solomon, built a temple for God and Jesus Christ was a member of  Davids family.

When David was old, he had his son, Solomon, anointed King.

David soon died and was buried in the City of David, Jerusalem.

Solomon loved the Lord and asked for an understanding heart to judge right and wrong.

God gave Solomon his request and told him if he followed the commandments he would have a long life.

Solomon composed three thousand proverbs or wise sayings.

He has also been said to have written most of the wisdom books of the Old Testament.

He increased Israels trade and military power.

The temple Solomon built to house the Ark of the Covenant was called the Temple of Jerusalem.

Solomon married many wives who worshipped pagans.

He began worshipping pagan gods and built temples for them.

God was unhappy and after Solomons death the kingdom was divided into Israel in the north and Judah in the south.
