Grade 6 Policies for Religion, Literature, and Social Studies � Mrs. Meyer

General Guidelines:
-school and classroom rules are to be followed at all times
-all work is to be done in erasable pen with cursive writing
-late assignments will not receive full credit
-all assignments should have a proper heading
-notes are to be kept in the correct marble-backed notebook using the proper format

Assignments:
-points will be deducted for the following reasons:
  -no name
  -no heading
  -illegible
  -messy
  -excessive grammatical errors
  -incomplete


Homework:
-students should study notes taken in the marble-backed notebook nightly for 15 minutes
  (religion and social studies)
-student should read their accelerated reader book nightly for 15 minutes
-written homework may also be assigned

Tests and Quizzes:
-quizzes (less than 100 points) will not always be announced
-tests (100 points) will be announced at least one week in advance

Absence:
-student must see me for make-up work
-students are responsible for copying missed notes from a classmate
-one day to make up assignments for each day a student is out 
-all outstanding assignments are due the day the student returns
-we will collect work for any student who is out

Band:
-please see me for missed work before the next class period
-students are responsible for copying missed notes from a classmate
-one day to complete missed work

Grading:
-based on tests, quizzes, classwork, homework, projects, and class participation
-average of points earned divided by points possible

Religion:
-Old Testament survey
-weekly quizzes (usually on Friday)
-daily meaningful participation


Literature:
-three novels (one per trimester)
-textbook must stay in school
-different genres and authors will be covered in the textbook
   -poetry
   -three types of conflict
   -short stories
-comprehension assignments will be graded for content and grammar
-Accelerated Reader
  -15 points per trimester
  -must sign out in classroom log and Mrs. Gardner�s log
  -must be a librarian present while taking a test
  -no more than one test a day or two tests a week
  -can be taken during library class, most homerooms, recess, and break
  -average of points earned counts as a test grade
  -midterm notification of points will be posted on Powerschool


Social Studies:
-study of ancient civilizations through Early Middle Ages
-current events projects may be assigned
-vocabulary quizzes will be given for each chapter
-notecards are to be kept for all vocabulary words
-quizzes and a test will be given for each unit of study
-final exam
