My name is Peter Cummings.  I was born in Millinocket, Maine, which is the northern, eastern most state in the US. Home is divided between Bangor, Maine (home to Stephen King) and Portland, Maine (one-time home to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow).  I enjoy moutain biking and listening to music.  I am an avid U2 fan (to say the least) and I also enjoy listening to jazz by artists such as  Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, and Sun Ra. I have been playing guitar for almost 20 years, and have not improved much since day one (I blame this on a genetic mutation leaving me without a flexor digitorum superficialis to my little fingers, something I share with 16% of the population, thanks mom and dad!). My guitar 'gods' are B.B. King and The Edge. I also have a dog named Jake, who is currently living in Maine with his mom.
I received my B.A. in zoology with minors in both chemistry and psychology from the University of Maine; my M.Sc. in pathology from Dalhousie University where the title of my Master's thesis was "Endothelial Dysfunction and Oxidative Stress in the Development of Coronary Artery Disease"; and currently I am enrolled as a third-year medical student at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland.  I have a wide range of experiences in forensic pathology including mass disaster identification, scene investigation, and mass grave excavation.  My main research interests involve sudden cardiac death due to Long Q-T syndrome, Brugada Syndrome, and SIDS.  Other research interests include homocysteine and glucose as risk factors in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease; auto-erotic asphyxial deaths; and the relationship between hand guns and violent deaths in communities. Why the name 'pahtologypete'?  Well, while doing my M.Sc. there were several Pete's running around. To tell us apart we were given new names by our friends, there was an economicspete, and blah blah blah, pathologypete. The name stuck and I was forever known as pathologypete.
