If you've ever wanted a little more power out of your VG30i V-6 engine in your 87-89 Pathfinder, this mod is easy and fairly effective. What this will do is create a ram-air effect---force-feeding colder, denser air directly into your intake, while still staying mostly out of the way and avoiding sucking up water when 4-bying or in the rain.

This area is where the intake is located after modifying it. Right above the headlight, behind the grille.

For the first step: detach the intake hose from where it's clipped onto the inner fender. The picture below shows the old hole in the inner fender after the hose has been detached. I had to use a flat screwdriver to pop it off. It was fairly well secured.
The next part is to trim the end off the intake hose with a hacksaw blade or sharp knife(be careful) Make the end nice and rounded so the air will flow smoothly through.

After that, position the end of the hose under the body sheetmetal just above the headlight, pointing straight forward. Use a long zip tie(or two linked together) to secure the end of the hose. It should look like the picture below.
To finish the job, I trimmed a small section of the plastic grille off with a hacksaw very carefully. Then I used a file to neaten the edges up. I took as little as possible off the top of the grille for cosmetic reasons. It's really not too visible when the hood's down, though. The black lines illustrate the area I cut out. This allows better airflow into the intake tube.
This is the completed picture of the entire engine bay. Nice and neat! I could tell I had more power right away.
