| WHO'S MAKING THESE THINGS ANYWAY? | ||||||||
| Currently, every car major car company is producing hydrogen fueled cars as we speak. billions of dollars are being spent by these companies to conduct careful research and testing to prove or disprove the efficiency of the new wonderous fuel. However, GM and BMW seem to be making the most progress. GM has a long history in the automobile business of solving car-related issues, such as operation in cold weather and overheating. BMW has a reputation for making long-lasting, durable vehicles which seemingly run forever. As GM labors on these cars, over the last two years the cost of GM's production of hydrogen cars has been decreased severely, as has the amount of problems faced in producing a hydrogen-fueled car. However, BMW is a ways ahead of GM in the race for efficient fuel. The 1970's marked the beginning of research for fuel alternatives for BMW and the twentieth century marks near completion. The company has recently completed the new model 745h, which runs completely on hydrogen fuel, can reach up to 184 horses, and has a top speed of 133 miles per hour. This car can go a massive 600 miles in between fuel refills, which would sure make my life easier. It seems that the sky is the limit for new fuel efficient vehicles. Will we all be driving hydrogen fueled vehicles in the next few years? Only time will tell, and more work must be done before a mass market is even possible. |
