Home to the Detroit Red Wings, Olympia Stadium or, simply The Olympia, is located in the heart of Detroit, one of the few downtown sports venues in all of pro sports.
The stadium was originally constructed in 1927 and subsquently demolished in 1980 when the Wings moved to Joe Louis Arena. However, as the need for increased convention space hit the city and Cobo Hall, the Red Wings, in conjunction with the city, rebuilt the arena adhereing the old style and feel. The team began the 2001 CSH season in the Olympia.
Currently, the arena seats 18,250 for hockey games although seating numbers can be increased for non-ice events.
