Shackle Reversal/Frame Stretch |
|||||||
First I made a few measurements to determine how far I needed to move the axle forward. I came up with 6 inches. This worked out great for the rear shackle mount. I could weld it right to the frame with out having to build up something to support due to frame curvature. I took height measurements of each spring eye and adjusted the dimensions of my front spring hanger to match. By doing this I kept the correct caster angle on the front axle. |

These front spring hangers are made out of 1/4 inch plate. |
Frame extension and front spring hanger are clamped into place to fit the bumper and make adjustments for spring location |

This top piece of the frame extension was welded on and placed so I could pick up the original winch mounts for added strength. I wanted the winch mount on the bumper to be tied to the original part of the frame. |
This is a picture of how the frame extension looked prior to welding everything together. |

Front spring mount welded in place. |
Rear Shackle (from a cj7 rear spring) mount welded in place. It is 6 inches forward of the original spring mount on a horizontal plane. |

Notice the shock Angle. It hasn't been a problem yet. |
