Scottish Fold

All Scottish Folds have descended from a single Scottish barn cat named Susie. Her unique ears, folded forward and down to tightly cap the skull, gave her an owllike expression that cat fanciers found endearing from the moment of her discovery. The Scottish Fold's body should feel well-padded, and its tail must be of good length and fully flexible. The cat's plush coat comes in a wide range of colors. Scottish Folds are quiet and fit well into many home situations.

For many years, Scottish Folds were accepted only in the short, plush coat reminiscent of their British Shorthair ancestors. However, early breeders used longhaired cats in their programs, and the long hair persistently showed up in litters throughout the years. Accepted today in their own competition division, longhaired Scottish Folds, with their flowing coats and full ruffs, are often the most eye-catching. Like all Scottish Folds, the longhaired cats' eyes should be full and round to accentuate their sweet expressions.

A breeding between a heterozygous, fold-eared Scottish Fold and a homozygous, straight-eared cat will produce two heterozygous Folds and two homozygous straight-eared.
