Tsampoy on Knives

tsampoy`s knife length measurement.flyers using longer knives (higher red dot)in mediumhigh point knife design.grounders using shorter knives(lower red dot) in medium point knife design to avoid any hang and for the shufflers to get in and out (in penetration) easily.notice that in measuring the length of knife the drop of knife is alligned to the prop toe.the two red dots in knee joint area is the two referral points for flyers and grounders fighting style.i prefer the medium high point knife which is a lil bit longer(higher red dot marker) for cocks that hit a lot in the air.to each his own.

defining the high, medium, low point longknife.the referral point is an imaginary line originating from the very center of base or core of natural spur.the tip of longknife is defined base on this imaginary line,if it is high, medium or low point.the picture presented is a high point longknife.cocks being hit by high point longknife mostly have a hard time recovering from the fatal wound incurred by it.most fights ended quickly when hit by high point longknife.most prefer this design than medium point.

if you`re not sure of the fighting style or if it is a combination flyer/grounder the length should be 1/16 of an inch lower than the higher red dot referral.just my opinion as based from knife tying and knife fighting experience.to each his own.if you`re looking for the best gaffers in bigtime circuit in philippines noli estrellado is one of them.for makers of best longknives in philippines carding manoloto is one among many.august moon of cebu make also very good supercobalt longknives.

here`s a picture of pakpaklangaw of augustmoon.lil bit wide longknife.this the weapon of choice for those fully aged 2 or 3 years old single stroke battlecocks with enough power in their legs.once you get hit solidly in the air and that`s it!no way to recover.we tested it many times and the one that got hit in the air with pakpaklangaw will simply go for a nosedive in the ground.the damage it incurs is so devastating the opponent could no longer stand after getting hit with this type of knife.it incurs the most damaging and biggest lacerated cavity wound compared to another longknife designs.this longknife design is not for crazy shuffling stags.pakpaklangaw design performs better on fully aged matured battlecocks, best on power single stroker deliberate hitter.it is my personal opinion that extra wide longknife is not for multipleshuffler cocks.to each his own.

on buying or acquiring fork longknives i prefer the ones with fork made of lil bit thinner sturdy metal.there are lot of longknives out there being offered with fat fork metals.they say it is more stable on padding when fixed.the negative side is more weight for that particular weapon.

example of longknife with fat fork.from longknife experience competing purely with them i believe and in my own opinion that a long knife with thinner fork is as stable as the ones with fat fork.it all depends on the expertise of knife tyers on how to fix it properly.the lighter the weight the more easier for a cock to swing, specially in dragfight the lighter longknife has its advantage.

if you`ll observe the fights in world slasher longknife competition those cocks tied with high point longknife finish their opponent quicker than those tied with medium point knife.there are those of course that won with medium point longknife tied in them, but most of these fights last longer. high point longknives do the job quicker than medium point longknives, considering cutting in all roosters involved are almost the same.

If your fowl hits more in the air in my longknife experience the weapon of choice is the high point long knife. if your fowl can cut well with depth the fights will mostly be a quick one.the impact brought by two colliding forces in the air maximize the whacking capacity of the high point longknife.in medium break highpoint is still deadly.the stopping power of the high point is great that when opponent get hit will have difficulty retaliating.they either lie flat or half paralize due to the big damage wound incurred by high point long knife.the proper length in longknife is very important.too long a knife affects hitting accuracy.

If i were to choose the metal to be used in making knives it would be the one with COBALT combination. it looks better as it shines much better than ones made of local high speed steel and the knife edge don`t bend easily thus retaining the sharpness for longer time and the tip won`t turn dull easily.have friends that used titanium but ended as only for display.the edge and tip of knives made of titanium will easily get dull.

highpoint
another high point.lil short but creates the longest ,greatest damage

Tsampoy on Long Feathered Warriors

long wing feathers is not really (not all) a trademark of high flying roosters.rather it is a sign of brawling power and prowess when the fight is decided in short distances that requires only fast medium breaking ability.most of the superb high flyers i saw in longknife that have real air maneuver ability are those that have rather shorter wing feathers.there are some that have long wing feathers that can fly high but can not maneuver better than those with shorter wing feathers.the reason for this is that the longer the wing feathers the more time(fraction of seconds)to flap them due to its extra length.long wing feathers like the battlecross being fought by roger roberts and ray alexander don`t fly high.they tend to stay more on the ground waiting for a chance to execute their deadly clip in fast medium breaking short distance fight.at this short distance fight they would usually move faster and won`t let their opponents most of the time(not everytime) outmaneuver, outbreak and out cut them.their long wing feathers can propel them faster than their opponents in short distance, medium breaking fights.

pitting this kind of roosters requires specific skill in longknife.they are not billed up heavily so as not to bring them out to uncontolled aggressiveness.they are just billed slightly to make them alert yet still calm.their weakness is in the first couple of aerial engagement where two cocks break high coming from far distance.these roosters will surely be outmaneuvered in the air by the high breakers.pitting and setting them sidewards at the far end side of pitting arena and let them walk to direction of opponent to have close distance fights will give them a better chance to win.i remember a fight where roger roberts release head to head his hatchet kelso against a bruce barnett sweater.the other pitter saw roger roberts cock struggling to get out of his hands.knowing this the other pitter release his sweater cock seconds earlier than roberts cock.the sweater gained his early momentum and met roberts cock up in the air and topped him.that was all it took to finish him.at his next fight he let the handler of thunderbird entry pit for him.roger roberts really did learn a big lesson in that longknife pitting scenario. Here is the picture of the thunderbird handler pitting sidewards one of their battleroosters in far end side of arena.

Reply from tsampoys pitting post:
Tsampoy , you're giving away too many secrets for free. Pitting sideways can sometimes help the salto breaker that is prone to be sometimes aggressive ... it allows the other rooster a head start which helps the salto to set him up for the kill.

of course there are also those that have long wing feathers that can break high up in the air.if we will compare the anatomical body structure of them they usually have lesser keel muscles compared to medium breakers of roger roberts and ray alexander.here is a picture of roundhead battlecross that has longwing feathers that crushed his opponent in the air.compare to battlefowl of ray alexander and roger roberts that have long wing feathers but this one has lesser keel muscles.not solidly built but can break higher.

now i`ll show you the magnificent battlecross fowl of roger robert, the hachet kelso.long wing feathers but solidly built in keel and back muscle areas.this won`t break high but can crush an opponent in short distance medium breaking fights.these are world slasher fowl heavy contenders.

why long wing feathered medium breaking roosters lose in first aerial contact in longknife?let me state my personal opinion and observation.to each his own.the longer the wing feathers the more time they need to flap them making them fraction of seconds slower than their counterparts with shorter wings.this very situation where they flap their wings that the ARMPIT AREA just below wingbutts that would OPEN WIDE FOR A GREAT TARGET in any high aerial combat.this is where medium breakers incur mostly their severe cuts from high flying opponents.in short distance medium breaking fights they don`t flap that long their wings much but rather a short ,fast snap flaps of wings.

Training

Bench Work - This picture does not belong to me.hope he(the owner-game2core) won`t mind as we only want to set an example.

a well padded table about your waist high.a little cage for a hen to motivate the cock to be trained.hold cock with his head facing away from you and in the direction of the bench.begin tossing him forward at 2 feet distance away from the bench.if he can fly and land easily on top of bench increase the distance gradually.if he`s accustomed to these flys exercise you can begin increasing the numbers of fly daily but gradually.when they open their beaks and begin to pant is time to stop for a short rest.assess the recovery period of each rooster, how many seconds or minutes until they stop to pant.cocks that have had bad respiratory disease in their younger age tends to tire easily with this exercise, some would have heads turned blue(lack of oxygen).

Climb Board - Another way of training them.again this picture does not belong to me.hope he(the owner) won`t mind as we only want to set an example.

Hold the cock in its tail feathers and have him climb the board.the trick is when the cock is halfway the middle of the board that you begin slightly pulling his tail back to create slight temporary resistance in his climbing action.the cock will exert more effort in his legs and will flap his wings vigorously to climb up.the hen up in table is the motivation for the cock to climb up,they say, hahaha.
