... from the 1905 Louisian State University "Gumbo"
My grandfather, William Cromartie Currie, Sr., was a Junior at LSU in 1905. There were 41 students in his class. Class colors were Green & White. The campus was not where it is today; but, was the old army barricks on the State Capitol grounds in Baton Rouge.
Grandpop was one of 3 "Sergeants" in Company "A".
Under "Entries for Varsity Field Day", April 29, 1905, he is listed for:
Quarter mile
One-half mile
High jump
Hammer (A weight with a handle on it)
Discus
Seems as though he was quite the athlete!
He was also in the "Mechanic Arts Club".
I have this "Gumbo", albeit, falling apart. And I will scan pictures from it and put them on this page, eventually.
