He was the husband of Kate Selser Currie Gilfoil;
the father of James H. Gilfoill, Jr.,Margaret Alice Gilfoil,(Sister Scholastica), and William R. Gilfoil.
He and Aunt Kate are buried in Silver Cross Cemetery at Tallulah, LA.
