The US 1840 Census Report for Madison Parish, State of Louisiana shows William Currie as Head of Family.
Free White Males numbered 2 under five years of age; 1 between the age of 10 and 15; 1 between the age of forty and fifty.
Free White Females numbered 1 under five years of age; 1 between the age of twenty and thirty.
Slaves numbered 15.
We can assume that one of the 2 free white males was Adaline and W.C. Currie's son Abram "Abe" Whitaker Currie, (3/18/1838 - 9/27/1889). The other must not have survived. The one between the age of 10 and 15 could not have been their son since they had only been married 4 years; perhaps, he was W.C.'s brother, John Currie.
The free white male between 40 and 50 was W.C. who would have been 30 years old in 1840.(There is a discrepancy here. I looked up my copy of the "1840 Census - United States" and sure enough they have checked "1 Free White Male between the age of 40 and 50" This is impossible. W. C. was 30 in 1840. SOMEBODY CHECK THIS FOR ME? PLEASE?)
The free white female under 5 could not have survived. She could not have been Huldah A. Devine Currie, Adaline and W.C.'s daughter that did survive and live until 1934, because she was not born until 1848.
The free white female betweem the age of twenty and thirty must have been Adaline, who would have been 22 in 1840. She died in 1849.
