Tribute To Imogene Johnson---
Her young, seventy year old, full-figured body, active with perfection works diligently at what it does. Careful hands gently nurse the soon to be beautiful flowers as the smoldering summer sun beats down. Exhausted and famished, she goes inside to continue her work, for dinner is yet to be prepared. It is not until after a long, debilitated day that she can rest and start up early again the next morning.
Years go by and her full-figured body is no longer the same. It gradually has become somewhat smaller and feeble as her on-going age process continues. She no longer can do all of the simple various tasks she once could, the ones that you and I take for granted. Knitting and crocheting gorgeous and unique masterpieces is no longer a part of her daily schedule.
Diagnosed with a deadly disease, her independence slowly veers into dependence. She, unfortunately, is no longer the same strong rock I once knew. Now, like the beautiful flower, she needs nurturing.
Now a victim, her defective condition persists to worsen and she has no choice but to change her place of residence. She is now a "new kid" in a place where an abundant amount of other people share many of the same characteristics
Finally, she could retrogress no more. It was time to let go and to let her rest forever. Her eyes were bright, blue, and calm. With the last of her strength, she fought for each precious breath. With her hand in mine, we both knew that it was time. The "Beautiful Flower" need not be nurtured any longer.
