About Us
EVERGREEN STUDENTS FOR
           SUSTAINABLE
    ANIMAL AGRICULTURE
              (ESSAA)
ESSAA is a registered student organization at the Evergreen State College whose mission is to promote experiential learning in animal agriculture. Students meet weekly to make
management decisions and care for the animals.

      OUR PHILOSOPHY OF
        SUSTAINABILITY

Grass Finished
Our ewes and their lambs are on grass pasture their whole lives. Portable electric fencing is used to rotate grazing areas for the health of the animals and of the land.

Animal Welfare
We aim to raise animals with their natural behaviors in mind by allowing them to graze on pasture. We emphasize stress free handling. We use preventative health care management to minimize disease.

Education
Students at the Evergreen State College who are interested in animal
husbandry and agriculture have the opportunity to participate in the management of the ewes and lambs, from animal health and reproduction to pasture management and marketing. This sharing of animal husbandry knowledge is critical to the
sustainability of agriculture.

Locally Grown --
Our animals are raised and marketed in the Puget Sound area.

Transparency -
Customers are welcome to visit the farm and see for themselves where their food comes from and how it is grown. We value an open dialog about food production and farming practices between producers and consumers.
