September 8
I'm starting to get a sense of rhythm and flow. The period of orientation is winding down and the 50/50 split between work on the patient units and work with my group of 5 peers and supervisor. In "group" today I shared my personal goals for this quarter. I can see already that working with this group of colleagues is going to be pleasurable.
I spent about 90 minutes on my units today. I'm introducing myself to nurses and others on these units that have a diversity of very sick patients. Pretending that I'm an extrovert will hopefully help carry me through this time of getting acculturated to this very different environment. I'm forcing myself to make as many initial visits with patients as possible. Today I was quite moved by the patients I met by their incredible stories of pain, loss, patience, and faith. How fortunate I am to be here. |
