| "Sabar, Why go to South Africa?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It does help that I love to travel and explore other places, but something had been drawing me to this trip. Certainly South Africa has a lot of history, especially social history. I knew that there had been segregation, but not to the extent that Apartheid ended up being. Even with the end of Apartheid, there still is a long way to go, but the steps made are clearly steps in the right direction; inspired by faith and Christian leaders. One of the things that has drawn me to this trip, apart from the good things that I have heard from people who have gone on the trip in previous years, is that South Africa has had a "Truth and Reconciliation" conference, which is an attempt to bring reconciliation between blacks, whites, Christians, non-Christians, gays, etc. It has produced some results, though not complete reconciliation; however, having the conference is an important step. I am interested to see what kind of results it has produced and not produced, but also how something like this may happen in our own country. |
