Jailhouse Religion

Acts 16:22-31

I want to preach tonight on the subject Jailhouse Religion. We Bible- believing Baptist often thumb our nose at religion. You would probably agree with me that religion doesn’t save anyone. Jonah said from the belly of the whale in Jon 2:9 … Salvation is of the LORD. The word religion is found five times in the Bible. Ac 26:5, Ga 1:13 and Ga 1:14 use it in a negative way. In Jas 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

This is the kind of religion that SAVED people ought to have.

Characteristics in the early Church that we should strive to have in our Churches today.

I. PERSECUTION VS 22-24

2Ti 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Pain is Gods great mistake

Leprosy-deadens feelings

 

II. PATIENCE VS 25

James 1:3

Lu 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

Ro 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

 

III. PRAYER VS 25

Paul and Silas prayed

I Thess 5:17-we don’t need more sermons on how to pry, we need more sermons on doing it.
