Kings & Priests

Revelation 1:5-6

We are kings and priests.

See also Revelation 5:9-10 and 1 Peter 2:9

Adam was given dominion over the earth. He was in charge.

Then he forfeited it to the devil. He traded his dominion for selfish gain, much like Esau traded his birthright for a bowl of soup.

Jesus has returned dominion to us. We are rulers with spiritual authority - "seated in heavenly places".

We have the name of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the measure of faith. Nothing is impossible to him that believeth.

The firsts place to take dominion is over your own heart and life. Remember what James said about vain religion - can’t control tongue, religion in vain.

Until you can control your own spirit - your own life - then don’t expect to exercise miraculous dominion over anything else. Speak to your own heart before you speak to the mountain.

If you can’t move your heart, how can you expect to move mountains?

We are also priests.

In the OT, people approached God through the priest.

In the Catholic Church, people go through the priest.

But Jesus, our High Priest, spread the priesthood to all believers.

That means every believer is a priest. We can all approach the throne of God boldly, and we can all minister for the Lord.

We all have a priestly calling and duty. Not all are called to the "ministry" as a vocation, but all are called to minister.

You can share the gospel.

You can pray for the sick.

You can grant forgiveness - not in a divine way, but you can for what God forgives.

You can exercise influence.

You don’t have to find a professional or specialist to do these things.

Your community and your acquaintances are your spiritual responsibility.
