How Shall They Hear?

Romans 10

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Look at this incredible invitation:

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

God has thrown out an invitation that is all- inclusive. Anybody and everybody is included. Any man, woman, boy, or girl - in any condition - in any nation - is invited to come to the table of the Lord.

The call for salvation is universal. The requirements are the same whoever you are and whatever you are.

Ac 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Nobody is left out in this invitation. No one is too far gone. All are equal in the eyes of the lord.

God’s will is that every person be saved.

2 Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Everyone has an equal chance.

But here is the problem:

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?

How can they possibly be saved if they don’t know about the Savior?

We know that there is only one way of salvation.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Ac 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There is no other way to God. Why should there be? God is not obligated to accommodate our preferences.

Salvation is so simple anyone can have. Truly, anyone can believe. It doesn’t take a lot of intelligence to believe. It doesn’t take a certain talent, or a degree of strength. All you have to do is believe the gospel.

And the good news is that God gives you the faith.

Ro 12:3 . . . God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. (AV)

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: (AV)

But men cannot believe what they do not know about.

. . . and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?

I’ve made a lot of mistakes in life because of ignorance - because of something I didn’t know.

Recently, I got a speeding ticket. The reason I got a speeding ticket is because I did not know that I was in a speed zone. I didn’t see the sign, because something was blocking it. I came around a curve, and there were the city lights, and there was the speed limit sign, and there was the officer.

Had I known there was a speed sign and a cop, I would definitely have slowed down. Had I known Judgment Day was coming, I would have obeyed the law.

Had I known the law was there, I would definitely have considered obedience.

 But, I didn’t know. I didn’t see it.

There are people all over this world who do not know the gospel. Sure, there are plenty who know and still don’t submit to it. But there are millions who just do not know. They have never heard.

They haven’t heard because no one has told them.

Often, no one has told them because no one has been sent to them with the message.

how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?

Here is a direct plea for missionary support from the scriptures.

How does God finance His work? Well, God has unlimited resources. He could simply make money materialize.

But He doesn’t choose to do it that way. Instead, He uses you and me. He uses ordinary people to do His extraordinary work.

God could just put the gospel in people’s hearts. He could thunder His voice from the sky and tell them.

But He doesn’t do it that way. He chooses to use people in His work. He chooses to allow us to become partners with Him.

how shall they preach, except they be sent?

It’s up to you and me to send missionaries. This generation of Christians is responsible for this generation of souls.

No, we can’t all go to the mission field. Some of us can. Some of us will. But all of us can support those who are sent. It’s our duty as believers.

The commission to every Christian is this:

Mr 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (AV)

We have this command repeated twice in the gospels - here and in the 28th chapter of Matthew.

We can’t all go into all the world. But we must see that the gospel is preached in all the world.

We can do that by supported those who go. I believe every Christian should do something in this respect.

Today, I’m asking you to make a commitment. We have pledged already about $850 per month to support missions. That’s our share in the spreading of the gospel around the world. But we must do more.

In fact, I haven’t been able to send that much out in a long time, because that amount has not come in for that purpose. Many who pledged in the past have moved away. Many of you who are new have not had an opportunity to make a pledge. Today, you have that opportunity.

Please, ask God what you should do. Ask Him what He would have you do. Step out in faith and believe God to do great things through you and through New Life. It’s been a long time since I have had a missionary come and speak. I have had to turn down so many who have called and wanted services. I cannot continue to do that. I must - No, we must help send more. The time is short. Jesus said:

Joh 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. (AV)

We must work the works of God while it is day - today is the day of salvation for someone. Who will it be? Will they hear? Will someone be sent to tell them? Is it up to you? We must not be negligent in this. We must send the light.
