To Live Is Christ
Php 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. I'm beginning to feel like a Johnny-one-sermon, but everywhere I look, I'm getting the same message. I don't know if God is building on this message or if He is going to keep on us with this until we get it, but I do know that God is leading. Last Sunday night, I talked about Abiding in Him - or hanging close to Him. Sunday morning, I said that one's relationship with Christ is the primary concern of the Christian. Over and over, God is reminding us that the bottom line is Jesus. Jesus said himself: Re 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. And the author of Hebrews tells us: Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; We have a number of biblical statements that relate to this subject. John the Baptist said: Joh 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease. Paul said: Php 1:21 to live is Christ, Again he said: Ga 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 1Co 15:31 I die daily. 1Co 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 1Co 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. It was the simplicity of just knowing Jesus that Paul taught and that he sought. I know nothing else but Him - He is my only desire, my only interest. Am I beginning to sound a little one-sided? Well, from here, it looks like there is only one side! Let me pose a question for you to think about for the next few days : WHAT ARE YOU LIVING FOR? If nothing else happens here - if every program fails or folds - if we never do any fancy plays or musicals - whatever else happens, I want Christ to live in your hearts. I mean, I want Christ to really live there. All of you have him on your minds, some of you have him in your hearts, but what I want is for Him to consume you - to completely take over your life. I don't care if people leave here thinking, "Boy, they sure have their theology figured out." I'd rather have them walk out thinking, "Boy, those people really know Jesus!" If you are really close to Him - I mean, if He really lives in you, things will happen. If you're not that close, you'll wait forever for something to happen.
