After The Election Blues

Mark 10 26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, who then can be saved? 27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men [it is] impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. After any and every election, many are letdown, even worried, about what the future holds since their choice didn't get in office. I want to assure each of you that life will go on, and that we will make it. I want to make 4 statements of fact that prove what I am saying. 1. Clinton may be in the White House, Yeltsin may be in the Kremlin, and Hussein may be in Baghdad, but God is still on the throne. Ps 29:10 The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever. :11 The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace. Rest assured, God is still in charge. David said to Goliath: 1Sa 17:45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. Jesus said to Pilate: Joh 19:11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power [at all] against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. Daniel said to his accusers: Da 6:22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: ... Israel demanded a King, so God gave them a king, and it was to their own hurt. But God preserved His people who were committed and true to Him. He always has, and he always will. In Egypt, God delivered His people. In Babylon, God delivered His people. In The Roman Empire, God delivered His people. Listen to this instruction given to Israel when they were captive in Babylon: Jeremiah 29 4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;5 Build ye houses, and dwell [in them]; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them; 6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished. 7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. How must we live in The US today - a day when so many unrighteous and immoral leaders are in office? Pray for the nation! Seek the good of the nation! 2. God can control our leaders. Pr 21:1 The king's heart [is] in the hand of the LORD, [as] the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. God was able to make Pharaoh let His people go, and He was able to harden Pharaoh's heart in order to punish him and his nation. Listen to what Daniel says even after being taken into captivity to Babylon: Da 2:20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: 2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: And note how God was able to deal with the evil King Neb.: Daniel 4 31 While the word [was] in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, [saying],O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling [shall be] with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. 33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' [feathers], and his nails like birds' [claws]. 34. And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom [is] from generation to generation: 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth [are] reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and [among] the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? Isn't that encouraging? God took Neb out of office, humbled him and changed him, and then placed him back into office to honor the true God. God can do that to our leaders. 3. It is not who sits in the Oval Office, but who kneels in the prayer closet that will determine the outcome of this nation. 2 Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Who does the future of the nation depend on? Not the politicians, but God's people. Prayer influences God. Prayer is the medium God works through to change things. God calls people to intercede, prays by the HG through them - Ro 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God. - and uses that prayer power to accomplish His will. Isn't that great? God calls us, enables us, uses us, and then does His will through us for us. We see through scripture that God looks for those He can use in prayer: Isa 59:16 And he saw that [there was] no man, and wondered that [there was] no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. Eze 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. And we see that prayer can accomplish the impossible: Mr 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men [it is] impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. Mr 9:29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. We need to see that it will take the Christians really getting down to serious prayer in order to preserve this nation. 4. Finally, we must see that it is not political elections but individual personal touches that change society. The woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus, and her life was changed forever. The blind man cried out and Jesus healed him and changed his life forever. The paralytic, the boy raised from the dead, the deaf and dumb - all these people were changed by a personal touch from the Savior. Then, he told his disciples to make disciples. How? One at a time through individual contact. Making disciples is not an en mass thing, but a personal matter. We will not save this country through legislation or mass media campaigns. We will only save this country through prayer and discipleship. So instead of the "after the election blues", we need to have the faithful prayer warrior and faithful Christian worker attitude. That's what will make the real difference. Constantine, through legislation, managed to nearly destroy the church, by watering down the gospel to make it more appealing and workable among the heathen. We must not change our faith to make it acceptable to people - we must change people to make them acceptable to God. Politics won't do that! Preaching will!
