One Day
Matthew 625. "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
Some of you here today have just graduated from high school, perhaps some from college. You may be wondering, "what now?"
You have a whole life ahead of you. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is yet to come, but today is here now. You've graduated. Great! You've accomplished that much. But that's not a finishing point - it's a beginning point. It's time to move forward.
I want to give you 3 words of advice to help you along.
Look ahead, but look where you are.
Plan for tomorrow, but live for today.
Tomorrow's dreams will never happen if you don't properly invest yourself today.
Tomorrow's are made of all your yesterdays and todays.
So, live today - one day at a time.
Take one step at a time. We all want to get to the finish line, but you run the race one step at a time.
Mt 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (NIV)
Some people spend all their energies worrying about things that might happen, or could happen, and usually don't happen.
Just take it one step at a time. It'll save you a lot of stress and you'll accomplish a lot more.
A young graduate said, "One day I'll go to college." But when the next fall came, he said, "Not this year. Later." Five years later he said, "One day I'll go" When he was 30 he said, "You know, one day I'm going to finish my education." When he was 40 he said, "Boy, I've got to get around to finishing that education." When he was 60 he said, "Why bother?"
Whatever it is, college, job, dreams, ambitions, plans - do it now. One day usually doesn't happen.
Ro 13:11 ¶ And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
2Co 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
Pr 27:1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Ps 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Don't save yourself for someday. "Now is the time…" that you have. Do it now. Start today.
I read a slogan at a missions convention that fits every situation:
"If not us, who? If not now, when?"
Mr 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
You can accumulate all the money and success in the world, but what good is it ultimately?
If you're going to plan for the future, plan for the ultimate future - eternity.
You can create an intelligent corpse, a well-built corpse, a beautiful corpse, a successful corpse - but it's still a corpse. What about your soul?
Luke 1215 … a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop.17 He thought to himself, `What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'
18 "Then he said, `This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."'
