None Of These Diseases
Ex 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
If you will …
Hearken to the voice of the Lord - listen, obey, understand, perceive. It means to really listen seriously and do something in response.
The Lord - Jehovah, the existing one (I AM)
Thy God - Elohim, the ruler
Do what is right - righteousness, be straight, pleasing to Him
Give ear to his commandments - to hear and obey
And His statutes - NOW GET THIS - prescribed actions
Then I will put none of these diseases on you. God put these plagues on Egypt as a just reward for their rebellion against God. He says to the Jews that if they will take His prescription, they will have none of these diseases.
What is His prescription? To please Him - to do what He says - to follow His advice.
God is not about rules. He is about instructions.
Rules tell you what not to do. Instructions tell you how to do something. God tells us how to live life according to the instructions.
We all know that following the instructions saves us a lot of grief. You follow the instructions on how to operate your car. The instructions say, "Put gas in the gas tank." If you put it in the radiator, you're going to have problems. If you put oil in the windshield washer, you will have a mess.
If you put a swing set together without following the instructions, you may have some big problems by the time you figure out what went wrong.
God is promising to keep His people healthy. Disease means "sickness", "infirmity", "malady", "illness".
He is consistent with this throughout scripture.
In Deuteronomy, and Deut means "Second Law", He repeats :
De 7:12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
De 7:13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee
De 7:14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
De 7:15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.
In Psalm 103 we see it again:
Ps 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Ps 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Ps 103:4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Ps 103:5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
Of course, it is not God's plan that we should be spoiled brats, or that all of us would be rich and famous, but He does want good things for us. He wants us to be happy and healthy.
Again, in Malachi, He promises that as we honor Him with our tithe - that is, with the 10th of the firstfruits of our labor, that He will "rebuke the devourer" from our goods.
If we will simply follow the principles of the Word of God we will do well.
In Isaiah, He promises:
Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
He repeats it in 1 Peter 2:
1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
And He verifies and illustrates it in Matthew 8:
Mt 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
Mt 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
Not only that, but He promises to "supply all our need" -
Php 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
And He provided "manna in the wilderness" for 40 years - He rained bread from the sky.
When Peter needed tax money, Jesus sent him to the mouth of a fish.
Can God meet your need? Can He heal your disease?
Yes! He can!
