A shepherd boy beside a stream,
"A wolf! a wolf!" was wont to scream.
And when the villagers appeared
He'd laugh and call them silly-eared.
At last a wolf came down the steep.
"A wolf! A wolf! My legs! My sheep!"
The creature had a jolly feast
Quite undisturbed on boy and beast.
The moral of my story is forsooth.
A liar's not believed even when he tells the truth.
