A bombshell was dropped today by the coaching staff and in particular Mick Mellows. He revealed that we would be dropping out of the league. It is our decision as to when we will concede although with Joe Mellows, being a deciding factor of the matter, wanting to drop out immediately the future of the club looks bleak. The reason for the drop-out is to allow for us to revise for our exams although they begin almost a month after the planned end of season. If you wish to show your support of the matter could you please write a message showing your opinion on the guestbook.

Injuries are a major problem for the boys at the moment. On the injured list are:

As you can see not even our linesman Barry Thompson has escaped without injury and sadly Geoff Spruell's knee injury is so serious he is unlikely to play any further part in Drayton's season and possibly he has played he last game for the club.

As reported on this site just one week ago, Chris Cooper has rejoined Drayton Athletic. He was unveiled before the match with Shelford Rovers at Hordean and received a standing ovation in front of around 20 fans!!! Chris takes over the squad number 12 and slotted straight into the team in the centre of midfield. We all hope Chris can be that breath of fresh air we have so badly needed this season.

As recently reported in the local newspapers, this season has been hit by the bad weather and league officials are discussing whethersome of the local youth leagues should be abandoned. There is a possibility that our league, the Under 16 B Division, may be one of those to fall foul of this as it is a large league and very few games have taken place this season. When asked about this, Drayton Head Coach, Mick Mellows, said that he "hoped it wouldn't come to that"and he came up with a possible solution of his own "instead of playing each team twice, which we do, just play them once and i think, think that is what they are going to do" As soon as any decision is made you will hear it here first. (actually you'll hear it second cos i'll probably hear it from the local paper)

As long-time fans will know, many players have left the club and few have joined and of those who have left most have been midfield players but it looks as though we are about to buck that trend as Drayton are on the verge of recapturing one of our former players. The hard-tackling midfield man Chris Cooper is talking about personal terms with the club over a possible return to The Taro. This would be a welcome boost to the team who haven't looked to convincing in midfield this season, lacking a biting midfielder like Chris. Check back soon for any developments on this story.
