Taking Screen Shots / Screen Captures________________

Taking screenshots is basically like taking a picture. The monitor is your "camera lense", and you're taking a picture of everything that you can see on your screen.

Here's how you take a screenshot using Microsoft Paint:
  • Click the Start button on your Taskbar
  • Highlight and click the word "Programs"
  • Scroll up and click on "Accessories"
  • Scroll down the "Accessories" submenu and then click on "Paint"
  • Open up whatever you want to take a screen shot of. If it's your desktop, then minimize all active windows so that nothing is blocking it. If it's a webpage, then go to the URL and if you can, maxmize it. Make sure nothing is in your way!
  • Press "Print Scrn" key on your keyboard. On most keyboards the key is located next to the F12 key (or somewhere near the top of the keyboard), but on others it may be located near the separate keypad on the right. And don't worry, it won't print anything out :) It's just "copying" it
  • Now maximize the "Paint" program and go to "File >> New". You can either go to "Edit >> Paste" or press "Ctrl" and hold it, then press 'V" and then let go. Either way, it will paste the image into "Paint"

There's your screenshot! From here you can either edit the image (if you're stealing someone's graphics..tsk tsk) or name the file and save it. Either save as a JPG, GIF, or PNG, so your screenshot can stay in top quality.
