Chapter Twelve
Charity, when did you come in? Miguel didnt seem too thrilled when he came closer to them; Kay followed from behind. Eric. Kay replied solemnly.

Kay. he did the same thing.

Whats going on? Miguel wanted Charity to confess. Miguel, Ive missed you. Eric and I thought it would be good to surprise you and Kay. She said. Yea, Im surprised all right. He mumbled. What? Charity stared at him. I said how thoughtful of you two to think about us. He gave a faux grin. Since were all here, I think we all should chat anyway. Lets start, shall we? He barged in on the twp when he sat down in the middle. Kay sat beside Eric and held his hand. All right, Miguel, what shall we discuss? Charity was a little thrown off by his comment.

This is it, Charity and Eric are about to get busted. Kay fancied. You know, Charity for two years you were with Eric; and I was with Kay; and we actually thought we couldnt live without each other. Then it turns out three years later, we created a child together. Joseph. My precious son. He is my world. That little boy means everything to me until one day I woke up and discovered that he wasnt mine! He snapped. Charity and Kay jumped as Eric blinked at him.

Where are you getting at?

Eric, I believe you know where Im getting at! Damn you, for touching my wife! Miguel roared. Touching your wife? Are you accusing me for having an affair with Charity? Eric narrowed his eyes at Miguel. Think hard, Eric. Miguel remarked through a stiffened jaw. Charity, it turns out that Eric is the father of your son. Did you know about it? Please, tell me this is a shock to you, too? pleaded Miguel. Charity fixed her eyes on the begging Miguel on his knees; gazing into her eyes. Charitys tears was a dead give away that she knew all along. Damn you, Charity! How could you do this to me?! He yelled.

Kay stood up and moved away from Eric, pretending to be astonished. Eric, you bastard. You had a love child with Charity! She bristled. Kay, I can explain. Eric said.

No. There is nothing to discuss, Eric. The fact is you and Charity lied to us! She glared at him. But we have a daughter together, Kay. Eric stated. You think? Kay sarcastically replied. Miguel, Im sorry, I didnt tell you. I thought if I could pass him off as your son . . .

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You thought that if you could pass him off as my son, I wouldnt noticed a damned thing of how different he is from me. Dont you think I sensed that from the start? There is nothing of that boy reminds me of myself. He scolded. Charity, the point is you lied to me and you didnt tell me. One thing I despise is dishonesty. Charity, I hate to burst your bubble sweetheart but its over. Were getting a divorce and I dont want to see you anymore. He responded spitefully. Miguel, you dont mean that . . . Charity stood up and touched his face. He knocked her hand off his face. Dont touch me. I want to see you gone. Ive already filed for divorce.

Kay, what about us? Eric wondered. What about us? What do you mean what about us?. Eric, its over for us, too and Ive filed for divorce as well.

Eric watched her. But Kay, we have a child together. You cant keep me from our daughter. He protested. Oh, but I can . . . you see I was astounded when I had found out about my daughters paternity. Youre not her father, Eric. Miguel is. And all this time, I didnt even know. She partially told the truth. What? But she is my baby girl. He cried out. Its here in black and white. She shoved the papers in his face and he read it. He learnt that she was telling him the truth. He was crushed when he discovered that Madeline is not his daughter. The night ended with sadness and the two couples shall never be the same. Six months had passed and their divorces to Eric and Charity were final. Kay moved in with Miguel. She was happy to learn that shed received half of Erics fortune. Not that Eric mind because he is a very filthy rich man. Kay and Madeline adjusted to Miguels place without a problem. As for Miguel, Charity owned half of his money as well. He didnt care because as long as he is away from Charity, he doesnt have to worry about lies and deceit.

I still cant believe that we had created a child. He is in total awe. Miguel, you dont have to worry about me deceiving you because I will love you forever. Kay kissed him fervently. I love you, too. Kay, you can always count me. I assure you. He hugged her tightly and looked at Madeline. If you dont mind, Kay. I need to have some time alone with our daughter. He picked her up and smiled at Kay. Sure, Miguel. You deserve to get to know your daughter. She smiled back. I have to go to work. Ill see you when I get home. Okay? She eyed him.

OK. Take care. Ill miss you. He said.

Ill miss you, too. They kissed each other goodbye. Miguel and Madeline went to visit Simone. Simone was about to close her door and she shrieked when she saw Miguel and his daughter standing in front of her. Miguel . . . hi. She responded dryly. I didnt see you there. She tried to smile. Simone, did I come in on a bad time? Miguel examined her.

No, what can I do for you? questioned Simone.

I wanted to thank you for helping me. I owe you so much. He said. Simone is still feeling uncomfortable with what happened six months ago. She did her best to avoid him, seems like it has caught up with her. No problem. Miguel, I dont mean to be rude. But I have to go. Tell Kay that I love her and Ill miss her. She walked away.

Where . . . Miguel paused. He wondered why Simone had walked away from him like that. Miguel shook it off and choose to go to the park with his darling daughter.

Madeline was playing on the swings and Miguel saw Charity from afar. Miguel . . . before I leave. I wanted to say goodbye to you and how truly sorry I am for lying to you. I hope that we can still be friends. I dont want to lose your friendship. She expressed honestly. Miguel blinked at her while pushing the swing for Madeline. I will always be a friend to you, Charity. I wish you the best in life and I hope you and Eric will build a happy life together. Take care and dont be a stranger. I would want you to visit us. We would want your son to play with our daughter. Ill miss you and
dont forget that Im a phone call away. He touched her shoulder.

Miguel gave her a hug and she returned one back to him. Love you. She whispered in his ear and he watched her leave until he hadnt seen her body anymore.

Daddy, who was that? queried Madeline.

That was your cousin, Madeline. She just came to say goodbye. He explained it to her. When are we going to see Mommy? The curious eyed girl curved her lips at her father. Were going to see her right now. He picked her up and held her tenderly. Do you think Mommy will be surprised?

Oh, shell be more than surprisedshell be ecstatic. Come on, sweetpea. Lets go see Mommy. He kissed her plump cheek and they are on their way to see Kay.

Miguel is in total awe when he and his daughter walked in Theresas fashion industry. He was very impressed as he held onto Madeline. Lets surprise her. He whispered and Madeline nodded. Miguel and Madeline ran into Theresa. Madeline, this is your aunt Theresa. He said. Hi, aunt Theresa. The cheery girl waved at her. Miguel! Oh my goodness! This is my niece? Theresa exclaimed. Yes, this is our daughter. He told her. My . . . you and Kay have created such a beautiful girl. Theresa is desperate to hold her again. May I hold her? I love holding her. Theresa quizzed anxiously.

You sure can. He beamed and he had seen Kay walking towards them. Darn, our plan is blown Madeline. He snickered. You two came here to surprise me? Isnt that sweet. May I have my daughter now, Theresa? Kay giggled. Oh, yes. I will leave you two alone. Theresa handed Madeline over to Kay and waved goodbye to them.

Whats up, Miguel? Kay asked while rocking Madeline.

I saw Charityand we have made peace. Kay let out a sigh when she heard Miguels statement. Miguel, Im glad. You know the strangest thing . . . when I called Simones office, her secretary said she was leaving Harmony. Kay looked puzzled. She is? Did her secretary tell you the reason why? Miguel demanded with caution. Kay shook her head. Nope. Not a word. Simone, is the Godmother of our daughter and she was supposed to congratulate us. Thats not like for her to leave. Oh, well. I sure hope well see her again. She shrugged.

Miguel remained quiet and said, Wanna get out of here? He smiled. Yes, what are we going to do? Kay was curious.

Youll see. He beamed. They all went to the airport to go on a vacation and this more than what Kay can ask for. She had never been this happy and shed finally got the man of her dreams. She know they will live happily ever after for a very long time. The End. Is it truly a happy ending?
