| Chapter Ten |
| Who do you have in mind? Simone tried not to sound so equivocal. Eric Williamsthat bastard has always had it in for my wife! If I find out that bastard is the father of Joseph . . . Simone stopped him right there. Miguel, lets be rational here. We dont know anything, yet. She reminded him. Youre right, but dont you have his DNA on record? Miguel quizzed. Yeah. I believe so. She answered. Then what are we waiting for? Miguel lifted a brow. Lets get going. He concluded. Simone tried to smile. We can look for the results on my computer. She told him. How long will it take? She faced Miguel. Not long. She beamed. Miguel is hoping this will be the solution to his problem. For hours, they have been waiting on the results. They heard the computer blinking when they walked back in. Is it ready? He asked. Were about to find out. Simone smiled. Okay, here goes nothing. She muttered. She scrolled down to the last page on the screen. She turned to Miguel and locked her eyes with his. Miguel, Eric is the father of Charitys baby. She replied sadly. Im so sorry. She stood up and examined his face. She could tell he was pissed and his world had came to an end. Damn it, Simone! Its not fair! He shouted and she pulled him into her arms and held him tight. Is there anything I can do? She asked. No, thanks for all of your help. Call me, whenever you need me? OK? He nodded and was about to leave but Simone had stopped him. Miguel, want me to take you back to your place. Ill be glad to drive you back. Its late and I dont want you to get into an accident. She smiled. Thanks, Simone. What about your carhow will you get home? Miguel blinked at her. I can asked my sister to give me a lift back here. Dont worry about me. She assured him. They walked out to his car and he handed her the keys. She got in the drivers seat as he was sitting on the passengers side. Thanks, Simone. Once again. He said to her after they had drove up in his garage. You didnt have to do itwant to come in? He questioned. She waved her hand. I think you want to be alone. She gave a wry grin. No need, this is the least I can do, for you being so loyal to me. Loyal, Simone hate it when he used that word. Loyal is far from what she did. She knew Eric was the father of Joseph before Miguel asked her to run a test. But she wasnt to blame, she didnt sent off that letter to Miguel. It was Kay who did it: not her. I dont want you to wait outside for your sister to comeits lateand its dangerous. Please, dont turn down my offer. He begged her. Just stay for the night if you want. He suggested. Simone vacillated for a moment. It wouldnt be any harmI guessoh what the heck! Ill stay for tonight. Do you want Kay to come over? She asked. No, I dont want to see her right now. Ill talk to her in the morning. He said. Okay. He stared at Simone. Is something wrong? No. Just tired. She curved her lips somewhat. He closed the door and took off his shoes. Make yourself comfortable. Want some Bourbon? He poured out. Why not? We both had a long night and I could use a drink. She giggled. He handed her a full glass to her. What are we going to make a toast to? She wondered. About how life sucks! He laughed. We havent talked in a long time anyway. So, whats going on with you? He sat beside her. She noticed the bottle is beside him and she could tell he doesnt want to think about what happened today. Nothing much. Just been busy with being a doctor. I rarely have time to get social with any guy . . . She murmured. What? You dont have time for dates? Simone, get out of hereyoure prettyI dont understand why you would close yourself off like that. He shrugged. Well . . . Miguel. I dont have the time. She laughed. One o clock in the morning, Miguel had drunk four glasses of bourbon and Simone only had two glasses. Miguel, what am I going to sleep in and which room will I be sleeping in tonight? He stared at her easily. Come with me. He outstretched his hand to hers and they ascended the stairs and entered his room. You can wear one of Charitys gowns. Help yourself. He sat on the bed and unbuttoned his shirt. Nah, I dont want to wear her things. Theyre too revealing. She tittered nervously. He roared with laughter. Yea, my wife is something, isnt she? Here, wear this. He gravely replied, handing her a shirt from his closet. Miguel, dont worry; itll get better; I promise. Simone told him. The thought had crossed her mind over and over again for going along with Kays scheme in the first place; but this time, she had to run the DNA test for himshe despises to keep things from him. Kay, I sure hope you know what youre doing . . . She frowned in concentration. Simone? Are you all right? What? She jumped out of her skin. Simone, Ive called you like ten times. Whats going on with you? Miguel looked concerned. Nothing, I guess I was so deep in thought of dealing with one of my patients tomorrow. Im sorry, Miguel. I must go change. See you in the morning. Simone dismissed herself and before she went to the guest room. She stared at Miguel one last time and she turned away. Miguel closed his bedroom door. Simone changed out of her clothes and slipped into the cozy bed. Before she turned out the lights; she heard a sound. She opened the door. Miguel? Whats up? Simone tried not to sound so jumpy. Simone, are you sure youre all right? Lately, youve been acting strange. He looked at her oddly. Sorry, Miguel. I got a lot on my mind. She soughed. Dont apologize. Thank you for all of your help. I dont know what I would do if you werent honest with me. He pressed her body close to his and didnt let her go. Simone is hating herself for what she is doing to Miguel; something tells her to stay out of it and let Kay deal with this. Miguel, when are you going to see Charity? She released herself from his arms. I dont know. I havent even thought about it. He shrugged. You dont know where things stand between you and Charity, huh? Simone replied sympathetically. Youre right, I dont know where things stand between me and Charityand I sure in the hell dont know what the status is between me and Kay. He heaved out a long sigh. You and Kay? Simone asked out of the blue. Yeah . . . He blinked at her while sitting on the bed. Kay and I had an affair. He confessed. Simone stood there in shock; she couldnt believe what she was hearing. Youre kidding mewhen did this happen and how? She paused and pondered on it. I mean I know how it happened but you get what Im saying . . . Simone, I cant face Kay or Charity because once Kay learns that Eric hasnt been honest with hershell go ballistic. He told her. Simone contemplated for a minute. Kay wont be feeling ambushed because she already knew about the babies paternity. She exchanged a short smile with him. Miguel, Kay is strong, you know that. Give her a little more credit. Simone explained. Yea, I guess. Im thinking about hooking up with Kay again, but if she does anything to betray me; she can forget it about me and her having a future together. He remarked blatantly. Simone placed a hand on his shoulder. Is there anything I can do? Her eyes showed him a hint of sympathy. God, Im just so angry! He barked. How could she do this to me?! Simone jerked slightly. Well, Miguel. What if Charity doesnt know. Its a possibility. Simone suggested. I dont wanna talk about it anymore. He got up and walked up to her. Goodnight. He said. He was about to kiss Simone on the cheek, by the time she had turned to him. They both kissed each other on the lips. A deep passionate kiss, slowly building into a sensual tension. Simone wrapped her arms around his neck and continued kissing him. Miguels tongue reached in her mouth and their tongues touched each other fervently. Simone felt Miguels hand running slowly against her thigh and she twitched. Whats wrong? Miguel eyes her tenderly. Nothing, I dont think we should do this. She said. Smelling the alcohol on his breath she moved back. Simone, Im sorry. I didnt know what came over me. Im feeling so vulnerable right now and I dont want to be alone. He pulled her back into his arms and said, Please, dont back away from this. I need you to comfort me. He whispered in her ear. Simone quivered and felt her knees trembling on her. MiguelII dont know . . . this is so wrong. She moaned when she felt his hand unbuttoning the shirt he gave her. His lips reached for her neck and she couldnt hold back. She ran her fingers through his hair and held onto him tightly. |
