| Chapter Seven |
| All of this waiting is killing Kay. She hasnt heard from Simone in two weeks. She hoped that nothing has happened to her friend. She made the effort to dial Simones number. Come on, pick up . . . She tapped her foot impatiently. . . . hello? Simone answered. Simone! Im so glad I can finally speak to you. Where have you been?! Kay sounded worried. Chill out, Kay. I was on vacationwhats wrong? Simone noticed how impatient Kay is sounding. Simone, are the results in? Simone plopped on her chair and sighed. Thanks for giving me a chance to explain. Simone countered Ha, havery funny. Kay bit her lip. Well? Well . . . Simone emphasized. I think you should come down here. Believe methis is not something you want to discuss on the phone. Kay knew it must be something big. Im on my way. I have a lot to tell you anyway. Kay hanged up and hurried down to Simones office. Simone opened the door and could see from Kays expression that she is anxious. Well? Kay repeated hastily. Well. . . . Kay, I think you need to sit down on this . . . Simone closed the door and sit down to face her. Come on, Simone. I dont have all day. She pounded her fist on the desk. Simone jumped and blink. She grabbed the results and opened it. Kay, seem like your suspicions were right all along. Madeline is Miguels and Joseph is Ericshow did you even come to that conclusion? Simone looked baffled. I told you, Simone. I remember conceiving Madeline from the last time Miguel and I have made love . . . Does Charity even know that Joseph is Erics son? If she does, then she has a lot of explaining to do, now doesnt she? Kay arched a brow. Kay, whatre you going to do? You have to tell Miguel the truth . . . he has the right to know that he fathered Madeline. Simone stressed. I know . . . She muttered. Its bad enough that he had missed out on Madelines first three years of her life. Simone pointed out. I know! Damn it, Simone. I cant think about that right now . . . let me have a chance to absorb this information. Kay started shaking. Im sorry, Kay. I dont mean to press on you. I her beeper went off. Kay, well talk later, okay? Simone put the papers down on her desk and went to the ER immediately. Kays eyes widened when she saw the papers lying there. She marveled at the idea of doing her dirty deed. Sorry, Simone. This has to be done. Kay took the papers and made copies from the copier and fixed the papers the way Simone had left them. Kay had to leave and some damage must be done. Kay rushed to the post office. I would like to know how soon this can be delivered? The woman looked at her and explained. So, itll be there within twenty-four hours? Kays eyebrows furrowed. Yes, maam. Thanks. Kay rushed to her car and took off ignoring what the woman said to her. This has to work, it has to . . . my life depends on it. Kay told herself. Nothing or no one will stop me from annihilating Charitys life; like the way she did mine. Kay clenched her fist on the steering wheel, making it home safely. She walked through the door and she heard Eric from the other room. Talk to you later. He hanged up before Kay stepped in. Sweetheart, I didnt hear you come in. How are you? He kissed her tenderly. Darling, Im fine. What are you up to? She pinched his arm slightly. Nothing. Want to go out for dinner? His green eyes searched through her blue eyes. Sure, where would you like to go? Kay smiled. I want to go out of town, were leaving tonight. He said. Tonight? Yes, tonight. Eric, why? Why are we leaving tonight? Because I have a business meeting I have to attend to tomorrowand you and our daughter is coming with me. Eric, I havent even talked to Theresa about leaving . . . I havent informed her on my plans. Kay begin to fluster. Kay, dont worry, I have talked to Theresa already and she agreed to it. Kay stared at him grimly. Thats just great. Kay thought. Eric, Im sorry but I cant just up and leave every time you have some stupid meeting! Why cant you take a break? Why cant you let this one go? Eric frowned tremendously. Kay, you dont understand do you? My father wanted me to take over his business before he died and I will respect his wishes! Everything I doI do it for you! Damn it, Kay! Why cant you see that I want you to have the best in life? I have everything that I wanted, Eric! All I want is you! She protested. I thought you owned me already? Kay is there something I dont know about? He appeared confused. Damn straight! And I dont know why in the hell I even bother to coerce you to drop it! If you want to go on that stupid trip then be my guest! I wont stop you and certainly not Madeline! She shoved him and called for Ashley. Ashley! Please, watch Madeline for me. Kay said. Sure, Mrs. Williams. When will you be back? Ill be back later . . . Kay waved her hand in the air, feeling disgruntled. Eric walked up to Ashley. There will be no need for that . . . Ill take Madeline along with me. So take the week off and enjoy yourself. Eric tipped Ashley abundantly. Ashleys eyes grew wider and was grateful to thank Eric. Thank you, Mr. Williams! She exclaimed. Youre welcome. Have a good week. He smiled and held onto Madeline. You too, Mr. Williams! Ashley walked out with Eric and Madeline. See you next week. He told Ashley and she nodded; waving goodbye. Miguel is a little upset that Charity didnt leave him a letter and didnt tell him where she was going. He was about to call it a night but he heard the doorbell ringing. He walked to door slowly and took his time to answer it. Kay? His eyes emerged greatly. What are you doing here? We need to talk. Is it safe for me to come in? Miguel welcomed her in and stared at her for a moment. She sat down. Wheres Charity? Miguel went to his bar and poured Kay a glass of White Zinfandel. Dont know and dont care. My son is upstairs sleeping and Im all alone. He gulped down his drink swiftly. More? He offered. Kay waved her hand in dismissal. No need. One glass will do enough for me. She told him. Miguel, may I use your phone? asked Kay. Sure. Help yourself. He poured himself another drink and he plopped on the couch, making himself comfortable. . . . what? Thats impossible! Donna, Ashley was supposed to follow my instructions! Goodnight! She slammed the phone down. Damn him! Her tears flowed excessively. Whats the matter, Kay? Miguel walked over to her. Damn my husband! Damn him! She cried out. What did he do? Miguel took Kay into his arms. He just took my daughter along with him, without consulting me! She shuddered. Kay, he has the right to, you know? He fathered your daughter, too. He whispered. Kay thought to herself for a minute. Thats where youre wrong, Miguel. Because youd fathered my child, not Eric. I dont even have the number to contact him! Kay was getting even more upset. Im sure he will call you. Calm down, sweetie. Is there anything I can do for you? Miguel asked while wiping her tears away. No, there is nothing that anyone can do, excuse me. She ran upstairs and went into Miguels room without realizing it. Kay? Honey, itll be okay. Youll see. He pulled her in his arms and rocked her back and forth. Miguel, Ill go crazy if I dont see my baby. She sobbed. Hush, now. Let me take care of you. Miguel kissed her again and kept on kissing her as she didnt let go nor did she refuse him. |
