The first moments of my day
I love, when it begins this way
It must have rained last night
The porch is wet
The sun begins its journey through the sky
Leaving my surroundings enveloped in a soft golden glow
Revealing the glory of God's flawless creations
Hush…the children are still sleeping
Let nothing disturb this moment
My moment of quiet peace
The clouds move quickly
Retreating to the east
To leave the sky a soft blue
They catch the sun's kisses
Creating soft golden swirling patterns
As they travel across the sky
Into the trees
A soft wind blows
Emptying their leaves
Of the droplets of water
Leftover from last nights showers
Each drop of moistness touches
The ground, like a well
Orchestrated symphony
To my ears
It's so quiet at this time of day
Only the animals and birds are awake
I can hear the gentle singing
Of the neighbor's sheep
I wonder if they're singing
To the sun
The birds call to each other
From high in the trees
Early morning greetings…
Or perhaps they too are singing to the sun
I write
Trying to capture this moment
So that later, I may again feel this
Perfect golden peace
