Standing at the edge of darkness
Close my eyes to feel the pain
Once again I've lost my freedom
Once again I've lost my way
Well, the birds they go on singing
And the wind it still does blow
The words I scream are fruitless
For the sun has lost her glow
So take this mind
I bow to your power
I'm growing weaker by the hour
Sweet Jesus won't you hold my hand
Be my legs when I can't stand
I've traveled too long
On this dark and dusty road
I've carried too long
This misery, this heavy load
My heart and mind are tired and weary
My body aches to set my heart free
I glance to the east and pray for the morning
I bow my head and beg for mercy
So take this mind
I bow to your power
I'm growing weaker by the hour
Sweet Jesus won't you hold my hand
Be my legs when I can't stand
I've searched all day and night for wisdom
In poetry books and rhymes
I've listened intently to my earthly masters
And swallowed down their noxious lies
I know I haven't always heard your voice of reason
Haven't listened to the meanings of your words
But I know you're still right here with me
I feel your presence and only you can absolve me
So take this mind
I bow to your power
I'm growing weaker by the hour
Sweet Jesus won't you hold my hand
Be my legs when I can't stand
