Title: Putting Me Back Together
Author: Kate
Email: [email protected]
Disclaimer: Joss Whedon, Fox, Warner Brothers, Sand Dollar and the Zombie at the end (Mutant Enemy) own the characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.
Distribution: If you want it, take it. Just tell me where.
Author’s Note: This is in response to a challenge (I put it below) and is set after Angel’s crisis ends (it has to end some time). Buffy is in L.A visiting her dad without Dawn, and she makes some excuse up and goes slaying. So, here is the challenge:

Must Haves:
1. No Riley, No Kate
2. Buffy having a fever and Angel cooling her off (gotta love that cold body!)
3. A shopping spree like the one in 'Pretty Woman'
4. A romantic date
5. A fairytale...preferably sleeping beauty
6. The movie 'Pretty Woman'
7. And lots and lots of fluffy happiness.

Try to include 5 of these:

Fairy slippers
Rochers (those are those chocolate balls with hazelnut filling)
A picnic under the stars
A black meshy skirt
A game of Brutal Truth
The song 'Because Of You' by Celine Dion
A box of purple tissues
Ice cream

Buffy checked her surroundings, she was definitely in a corner. The large slime demon kept attacking her, not backing off when Buffy occasionally got a few kicks in. Then she felt it, the familiar sensation. “Angel,” she whispered trying to see him in the darkness that was behind her attacker. The slime demon caught her off guard, and clawed at her, giving her a nasty scratch down her front and sent her crashing into the wall. Angel heard the noise and ran over. He raised his axe up high, and brought it down into the back of the slime demon. It shrieked and ran off.

“Hey, that was my axe,” Angel joked. He leant down and helped Buffy up

“Thanks,” she replied meekly.

“No problem,” Angel replied then seeing her scratch “are you okay?”

“Oh. Probably, I mean I feel a little light headed and sore, but otherwise,” Buffy replied trying not to collapse again.

“Are you staying with your Dad?” Angel asked.

“Oh crap. How am I going to explain this to him?”

“Say your staying with Cordelia for a few days. And stay with me, so I can make sure your okay,” he explained.

“I thought seeing me made you cut up inside.”

“Now, I think your putting me back together,” he told her. He gently put his arm around her shoulder and they walked back to his place. Buffy couldn’t complain, she so badly wanted to be with him and if he felt the same then she was only happy to oblige.

When they arrived Cordy and Wesley had already left, which Angel was more than pleased about. He took Buffy to his bedroom and lay her down on his bed. He went into the bathroom and came out with the first aid kit.

“God, is it really that bad?” Buffy joked.

“I don’t want it to get infected. I’m worried you’ll get ill it, I don’t want to take any chances,” Angel explained sitting down on the bed next to her.

Buffy put her hand over his “I was joking,” she said softly. Angel smiled, he reached to his bedside cabinet and pulled out a couple of tissues. He gently blotted at the wound lifting up the blood.

“Angel, are your tissues really purple?” she asked.
“Yeah. I asked Cordelia to get me some tissues and she came back with them. Something about needing bright colours in my life,” Angel replied.

“Cordelia was actually trying to help. What did you do to her?”

“She did it herself,” he answered as he gently dabbed some ointment on Buffy’s wound.

“Ow,” she whimpered. He gently squeezed her other hand as he finished applying the ointment. After putting a bandage on it he asked, “Do you want something to eat or drink?”

“Could I have a glass of water?” she asked.

“Of course,” he answered and went and got it for her. She thanked him and he gently kissed her goodnight and went out to his living room. He took of his shirt and lay on the couch, using his vampire senses to listen to Buffy in his room. He could hear her tossing and turning, and eventually went in to check on her.

“Are you okay?” he asked concerned.

“I’m just, really hot,” she said.

“No kidding, your gorgeous,” he joked.

Buffy smiled weekly “I mean temperature wise.”

Angel sat down on the edge of the bed and tenderly lay a hand on Buffy’s forehead, “I think you have a fever.” Buffy pulled him down next to her on the bed and cuddled up into his chest. He slowly put an arm around her and asked “and this is?”

“You cooling me down, with your gorgeous cold body,” she explained.

“I see,” he said as he absent-mindedly started stroking her hair.

“Tell me a story?” she asked.

“What?”

“To put me to sleep, you know, a fairy tale.”

“Um, okay,” he said, desperately trying to think of one. “Okay, got one. There was a princess-”

“What was her name?”

“Um, something Rose.”

“Can it be something else?”

“Okay, Anne. At her christening the King and Queen invited the good fairies of the forest to come and bless her.”

“I think you missed a bit,” she taunted.

“I think I don’t care,” he spat back at her. “They blessed her with beauty and cleverness and other stuff-”

“Angel!”

“What?”

“Ugh never mind”

“I won’t. Now the evil fairy came, and was grumpy because her invitation had been lost in the mail.”

“Angel, she never was sent an invitation and I don’t think they had mail.”

“They had messengers, and I would know better than you. She wished that the child would prick her finger and die on her 17th birthday.”

“I had a better birthday present on my 17th birthday,” she smirked “not that the after party was much fun, Thankyou Angelus!”

“Buffy, do you want me to tell you a story or not?”

“Yes.”

“Well let me talk,” he jokingly scolded her.

“Fine, be like that.”

“Now where was I before I was so rudely interrupted! Anyway one fairy still had her wish, so she wished that Anne wouldn’t die but go to asleep for 100 years and would wake up to the kiss of her true love.” Buffy notably snuggled deeper into Angel’s chest. He also held her a bit tighter and continued “So the King and Queen sent Anne to live with 3 of the fairies in the woods. She lived there happily until her 17th birthday, when she was returned to her home at the palace. As she was wondering through the palace, she came across a room with an old lady and a spinning wheel in it. The lady told her to come in. Because Anne had never seen a spinning wheel before she asked how it worked. The old lady, who was actually the evil fairy, told her to touch the spindle. Anne hadn’t ever been told about the curse-“

“I know about that,” Buffy muttered.

Angel gave her a squeeze “So she pricked her self and fell into a deep sleep. The wicked fairy ran off and by the time the 3 good fairies got there they were too late. So they took her to her bed and put the whole kingdom to sleep. Over the next hundred years a forest of trees grew around the palace, many knights tried to get through but they couldn’t. One day a prince did, and he found Anne. He thought she was so beautiful he gave her a kiss and she woke up.”

“What was the prince’s name?”

Angel thought for a minute “Liam,” he said and gently lay a soft kiss on Buffy’s forehead. Buffy smiled, then yawned. She fell asleep holding on to Angel.

The next morning when Angel woke up, Buffy wasn’t there. He went out of his room and soon found her watching TV.

“Hey, your up,” she commented.

“Yeah, best sleep in ages,” he replied.

“Same. I didn’t want to wake you, you looked like, a sleeping Angel,” she joked.
Angel ran over to her and pinned her down to the couch underneath him “really.”

“Yep,” she said, “now Cordy called in sick and I told Wesley and Gunn to go home, besides I didn’t want them to catch whatever I’ve got.”

“Still not feeling any better?” he asked concerned.

“A bit better. Though in this position-”

Angel cut her off with a kiss. Buffy responded by kissing him back, at first it was slow until it turned more passionate. Finally he pulled away, and realised what he did “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that.”

Buffy looked hurt “You didn’t want to?”

“No, it’s just, I moved so you could be happy and-”

“Then kiss me,” Buffy said and kissed him. He did as she asked, and they kissed for a long time. Remembering what it was like to be in each other’s arms. Eventually they separated, Buffy curled up into his chest as he held her. Buffy randomly flicked the channels until she found the midday movie. But by now it was part way through “Pretty Woman, I love this movie.”

“Never seen it,” Angel admitted.

“It’s funny,” Buffy said turning her attention from Angel to the TV screen. “Okay, I wanna do this,” she said indicating the shopping spree in the movie.

“Really?” Angel asked.

“Yeah, you know. Just shopping and not caring about the cost or anything, else.”

“Well, why don’t you?”

“Is that including the lack of funds and not having the time or not.”

“Tonight, the shops are open late and well, I guess this is profitable enough,” Angel said with a smile indicating the office.

“You going to shout me a shopping spree?” Buffy asked amazed.

“Would it make you happy?” Angel asked.

“It sounds like such a luxury.”

“Which you deserve more of,” he said as they began to kiss again.

After sundown, Angel and Buffy drove into the city. Buffy said that they should walk, but Angel reminded her that she was sick. Buffy declared that she was much better, but Angel said that if was going to walk all over the city while she shopped, he was driving there. So they drove, it was a nice warm night and Angel put the top down. When they arrived, Buffy could hardly wait to start. She practically dragged him into the department store.

“Okay, I need a black skirt,” she informed him.

“Well, go find one,” he said. She skipped merrily towards the ladies department still holding hands with Angel. She picked out a few then went to try them on. She ordered Angel to sit and wait for her. Not long after she came out in a knee length, black mesh skirt, “What do you think?”

“I think you should get the short leather one,” he joked.

Buffy crossed her arms and pretended to be angry, “Men.”

“Seriously, I think I should get it for you and because you look so beautiful in it.”

“Done,” Buffy said and went back into the changing room. Over the next few hours Buffy dragged Angel all over LA and made a major dent in his bank account. But Angel didn’t mind in the least, he was happy to be with her and to see her so happy. After Buffy had utterly exhausted her self she flopped in the car with her many bags.

Angel started the engine “did you have fun.”

“I feel really happy, not worried about anything, it feels weird,” she said. Angel smiled back at her and started the engine.

“Are we going home now?” Buffy asked.

“No we’re having a picnic, and you called it home,” he answered.

“Home is where the heart is, and did you say a picnic?” she asked excitedly.

“I’ve got the stuff in the back,” he said as he pulled up at the beach. “If I can find it through the, what are these?” he asked pulling out a pair of pink fluffy slippers.

“Fairy slippers,” Buffy shrugged.

Angel rolled his eyes and both of them got out. They walked on to the beach and sat down on a rug Angel had chucked in the car.

“So what’s to eat, you didn’t bring blood I hope,” she joked.

Angel just laughed and so did Buffy. Buffy was more than pleased when he presented chocolate ice cream, cookie-dough fudge mint chip and a box of Rochers. They sat on the rug looking at the stars, with Buffy leaning on Angel’s chest. They fed each other chocolate, ice cream and cookie dough and they talked. Angel told her about Darla and Drusilla, and how he had sacked his staff. Buffy told him about her mother and Dawn and Riley. And when she asked how he knew that she liked this food, he told her about the forgotten day. She cried at first, but then he told her about the prophecy about him becoming human. They stayed like that for a long time, two lovers under the stars.
