What's It About?
Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah) and Sebastian Valmont
(Ryan Phillippe) are two ridiculously rich step sibilings gearing up for
their senior year at Manchester Prep. Kathryn seems like the model
daughter and student being Student Body President. Sebastian is the
'bad apple', bedding women and the occansional therapists daughter; all
of which he records in his journal. But Kathryn is the more dangerous
of the two. Manipulative, scheming and vindictive. Her and
Sebastian are perfect for each other: Two of kind.
Sebastian sets himself a challenge to sleep with
the new headmasters daughter, Annette (Reese Witherspoon) who not only
is a virgin with a boyfriend, but has publicy announced her intent to wait
for love in a Seventeen magazine manifesto. Kathryn decides to get
in on it. They make a bet. If he fails to deflower Annette,
Kathryn wins his precious 1956 Jaguar Roadster. However, if he suceeds,
he gets what he's been dreaming of since their parents married: Kathryn.
And who can resist the bet when she says "You can put it anywhere."
Throw in the subplot with Kathryn wanting to destroy Cecile (Selma Blair)
because she was dumped by Court Reynolds for the innocent little twit,
and you have one helluva a flick.
What was Sarah like?
In one word? Can't describe it in one word.
She was sexy, alluring, incredible.. God she was great. She was Best
Actress in the MTV movie awards for Cruel Intentions and Best Kiss with...
Selma Blair.
Her best movie performance.
Did I enjoy the movie?
Yuh huh! This is one of my favourite movies
of ALL time. Sexy, stylish, great car, great clothes, funky soundtrack
and fantastic performances. Very funny in parts. Gorgeous black
comedy laced with sex and wit. I loved this movie so much I've got
the video, CD and have wrote a prequel (Probably better than the one they've
got out now).
I give this a 9 and a half out of ten
