Epilogue
By Yuki-hime^^
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Relena stared out the office window, smiling to herself. 'Amazing,'
she thinks to herself.
"Relena," Heero says as he walks into her office.
She turns and smiles. "Heero, what are you doing here? I thought
you'd be at work."
"I got off early. What are you doing? I expected to find you slumped
over papers again," he said, smiling at her.
"Watching the sunset," she said as she stood and walked to the
window.
He watched her for a minute before moving behind her and putting
his arms around her slender frame.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" she whispers to him.
"What's wrong?" he asks as he turns her around.
She smiles at the concern shown in his eyes.
*FLASHBACK*
She stared at Heero's back. "Why can't we be friends?" she asks.
"Because I don't have friends," his cold monotone voice answers.
"But everyone has friends, even you. Duo, Quatre, Trowa,
Wufei, and
even me."
Heero turns to see her. 'But I can't have friends, they would die,'
his minds speaks. "They're allies, that's
all."
"Then what am I, Heero?" she questioned him. She feared what his
answer might be.
He remained quiet, unable to answer her question because he, himself
did not know the answer. Relena accepted his silence as his answer. That
she was neither an ally, friend or foe. She was
nothing to him.
*END FLASHBACK*
'Once, those eyes would never have shown anything for me. Things
have changed so much since the first time we meet,' Relena's thoughts
echoed in her mind.
*FLASHBACK*
The sunset was beautiful. It had been a while since
she had seen
one. Being in space with her father was not one of the best times of her
life. She glanced down at the beach and saw a body.
After she had called for help, she ran down to see about the person.
She rolled them over onto her lap and took off the helmet, revealing a
young boy, about her age.
His hair was a unruly brown. And she found herself
wondering what
his eyes must look like.
He startled her by bounding off of her and standing on the ground.
He had asked a question but she didn't hear because of his eyes. Those
deep blue eyes had caught her off-guard. And she was right to assume that
they would be beautiful.
The ambulance brought her back to her senses and she saw the boy
run into the two men, knocking them down as if they were just doiminos and
then speed away in the vechile.
She extended her hand towards the retreating automoblie. "My name
is Relena Darlian. What's yours?" she spoke to herself. Determination set
in. She would find that young boy again, and know his name.
*END FLASHBACK*
"Heero, I have to tell you something," she said. Fear rose in her
voice and she was sure he heard it. Her mind darted back to the first time
he'd shown affection.
*FLASHBACK*
She couldn't let him go. Not into the war, where she was sure he
wouldn't make it. She followed him out to the bay, where his Gundam waited
for him. Just like she waited for him. 'We'll always
be in compeition with
each other,' she thought as she saw the looming metal ahead.
He climbed into the Gundam as she watched his movements. The ones
he'd done a thousand times, but ones that might also be his last. He looked
at her.
She knew he could see the concern written on her face. She loved
him. And she knew it, no matter how much she tried to tell herself it was
just some silly crush. She wanted to begged him not to
fly out into the
battlefield, but her heart knew it was the right thing to do. She couldn't
be selfish. The world's safety hung in the balance, as well as peace.
She told him to be carefull, and he promised he'd come back to her.
He'd protect everyone. She knew he'd keep that promise.
*END FLASHBACK*
"What's wrong Relena?" he questioned her again.
She thought back to all the times Heero had saved her. Saved
her and
the future of the Earth and colonies.
*FLASHBACK*
She saw it all, like it was in slow motion. The chunk of Libra would
crash into Earth and destroy it forever. Then she saw Wing Zero flying
after it.
'No Heero,' her mind screamed at him. 'There's no way he could
destroy that thing and live,' she cried to herself.
Heero turned Wing Zero towards the last piece of Libra, it's
back
to the Earth. He held the beam saber out, his aim wasn't steady, there
couldn't be a way for him to get a clear shot. But he somehow managed,
like
always. Heero saved the Earth and peace.
*END FLASHBACK*
"I'm..." she began.
*FLASHBACK*
The meeting was long and all she wanted to do was
rest. The papers
had to be looked over, but that was no problem. She could settle this colony
problem in a matter of hours once she knew what she was looking at. She
heard her name called and stopped to look behind her.
"Please, Minister Darlian, won't you stay. We've set everything up
for your birthday party," the man said.
"I'm sorry, but I can't. I have to get these papers reviewed," she
replied and smiled.
"Maybe some other time then," he said and walked off.
She turned and started her walk back to the shuttle. Boarding it,
she hardly noticed the man that had bumped into her. Politely excusing
herself, she headed towards her seat. There was a teddy bear with a card.
She picked it up and read the words. Quickly glancing up, she looked for
him. "Heero."
Heero turned at his name, and looked up. She smiled and ripped the
card in two. "Next time, give it to me in person," she said and
watched
him walk on. She knew, like the very first time, that she would meet Heero
Yuy again.
*END FLASHBACK*
"What Relena?" Heero's concerned voice brought her back. "You
aren't
sick are you?"
"I'm pregant," she said as she looked into his eyes for the reaction
she was sure that she would receive.
"Your pregant? That's great Relena!" he
laughed as he pulled her
into a hug and swung her around.
"Really?" she asked in surprise.
"Yes, why? Were you afraid?"
"Well, yes. We never talked about having children. I... I didn't
know how you would react."
"Relena, having children with you would complete my life," Heero
said gently as he brushed the hair off her cheek.
She smiled and kissed him. 'Yes, this definitely isn't the Heero
I first met,' she thought and she deepened the kiss.
Heero and Relena had a baby boy three years after their marriage in
202 AC. (They were married in 199 AC.) They lived on Earth and Relena was
the Vice Foreign Minister until 210 AC, when peace was finally attained.
After that, she ruled as the link between the colonies and Earth until her
death in 290 AC. Heero stayed by her side until her death and less than a
year later, died. Their son, took over Relena's duty
after her resignation
in 215 AC. He carried on the dreams and hopes of both his parents for a
peaceful future until his death.
