Hi! Remember Me? My Name's Lerrie
and This is What I Did After KBS.
Working in KBS was the best job I ever had.  The jokes, the laughters, the goofs, the tapings, the editings, the remote coverages, the fights, the misagreements, the temptations, etc., etc. was such a wonderful experience for me.  I really had a joyful time working with such people like you, and others although I know sometimes I am a pain in the ass to work with, the same as our other co-workers then.   Well,  here's a short  story about my life here in the USA.

I resigned as an Assistant VTR Supervisor a week before I left for the USA.  I really had a hard time making a decision on whether I'll quit my job and leave for the USA or stay and learn more about show business.  The Martial Law made me decide to leave for the sake of my wife and children.  I have heard a lot of positive comments about the good life and the opportunities we can have here specially for our children.  I really think I made the very right decision.  I left Manila in October 20, 1972.

My destination was Chicago, but my friend requested that I made a stopover in San Francisco for a brief vacation and offered that he will take me around the Bay area and have a good time.  My stay made me realized the SFO Bay Area is a nice place to live since the weather(climate) is good and it does not change like the east coast.  I was lucky,  after 2 weeks
I found a job as an Audio/Video Tech in a small company in Oakland, CA.  I worked there for 3 years and then quit and found another job in SFO for betterment.  I worked there for 2 years and then worked as a Video Engineer in one of the largest security companies here in the US, the American District Telegraph Co. (ADT for short).  I worked there for 5 years until I got burnt out of my job in Video.  I applied as an Electronics/Mechanical Building Maintenance Engr. (now it's Equipment Systems Engr.) at the Port of Oakland.  I got the job and have been working here for 22 years now.  I plan to retire next year in December of 2005.  Go back and forth to Manila and do some mission work.  I know a lot of our kababayans need some assistance to go on with their lives.  I hope I can be of help.

About my family, I have 3 children, my eldest, Elaine, 34, a dentist, has a dental clinic in Palo Alto, CA., My son Neil, 32, a Nuclear Engr. Works at Lockheed-Martin in the Satelite Division.  My youngest daughter Jo Ann, 25, is a Sociology graduate of UC Berkeley.  I have 3 grandchildren from my daughters, 2 girls and a boy.  My son though he is married is still childless, he and his wife are still busy building up their careers.  They already finished their MBA.  It's sad to tell that my first wife passed away almost 3 years now.  She had cancer. She did not win the battle.  I remarried last year.  Her name is Catherine Reyes. (Cabreza now) .  She is from Las Pinas city and Bacoor, Cavite.  She is a Dentist , working as a dental assistant here for the meantime until she passes her California Dental Board.

Ang haba na nito.  Boring nang basahin.  Anyway that is a brief story about my life here in the USA.  I hope some of our KBS young co-workers can share their experiences also.  How about you?  Anything interesting happened in your life here in the USA?  Take care and God Bless

Lerrie
