This is something of an unusual request - but here it goes I am looking for my dad’s first cousin, Sis Barker. Her daughter’s name is Sherry Adams.
(Sis) Melva J. Barker (it might be Melba) lived at: 2935 Aloha in Las Vegas, NV 89121-7142 a few years ago. The family always called her Sis and until I started working on our family tree, I never knew her first name, and it depends on who you ask – if it is Melba or Melva.
I am hoping that someone can check the Polk Directory or a similar type of directory for the greater Las Vegas area for a listing for her. When I was in Vegas earlier this year, I called the M and M J Barkers listed in the phone book – some were disconnected, one was a very nice Martha Barker. I have used all the search engines that I can find for addresses and phone numbers on the internet to look for M J Barkers but most only have phone numbers; and of those I believe that I have tried to call all of the ones listed for Las Vegas.
My purpose of finding Sis is quite honorable, we have always exchanged Christmas cards and such, and about 10 years ago, when I started working on the family tree, I sent my research to her. We spoke on the phone from time to time and Sis had an interest in the old family stories and history but wasn't the researcher type of person. Since that time, I have gathered a great deal more information on the Cook Families and would like to share this with her as well.
Sis has tons of old home movies of our family when I was a kid taken at her mother’s clubhouse on the Illinois River at Grafton, ILL. She has moved and the last letter came back returned, I was at something of a loss at how to go about finding her. Since, we last corresponded – I have found many old photos and now have the computer technology to change those old movies into avi files for the computer to be shared with other members of the family.
Her mother passed away several years ago and there are no siblings to check with. I have called all the cousins that I can think of and she has only one daughter, Sherry Adams - as far as I know, neither were married but could have gotten married and changed their names.
I hope someone can direct me to finding Sis – I appreciate any help that you can provide. Her mother was My great aunt Datha Mayhue Cook Ely. Also, I really can't afford a private investigator, so hopefully, some super slueth family researcher will be able to help me find her. thanks,
