Career Aims ________________________________________

I have recently completed my Graduate Diploma in Horticulture at the Burnley Horticultural College, Melbourne University, and work part time (casually) at a retail nursery where I can put my plant knowledge to use and help customers with plant care and selection.

My career aim is to eventually own a horticultural business which promotes re-introduction of indigenous habitat to urban/suburban settlement, to encourage the return of native wildlife and limit the use of water, fertilisers and pesticides. I also want to explore innovative ways in which to encourage people to enjoy their gardens, as the modern lifestyle is increasingly keeping us indoors and out of touch with nature.

My previous career as a linguist took me to remote places such as the Boloven Plateau in southern Lao P.D.R., Katherine (Northern Territory), and I also recently travelled to the Eastern Highlands (Goroka) of Papua New Guinea. In all my travels I have lived for short periods with local minority ethnic groups, learning their languages and participating in their daily life, with an aim to learn as much as I can about different cultures and environments.
