8th July - Take your marks, Catch the Bus

The day after Renaud arrived with Ali Sutton, a friend of us both, which was good, another familiar face on the other side of the world. Both of them had not been to London before, so dad and i showed them around a little, and we saw some of the tourist things, which is always good fun. We went into Harrods, as everyone must do, took photos, which is not allowed and Mohommad would be very displeased about! Haha, because we're on a first name basis, old Al Fayed and me.

That afternoon Ali, Renaud and I had a look around and were waiting for a bus outside an Underground stop. The undergroud wasnt working because of the strike so the buses were a bit of a disaster. I dont think ive ever seen anything more crazy. The buses were so full and the lines so long that people were queing all over the street and everywhere they could.  Because there was nowhere for the buses to stop (as there were people there) they would keep going. One bus came and drove straight past. Most people would consider that a reason to not catch the bus. However, this is London peak hour. Out of the crowd springs a woman in heels and a suit, bolts down the road, a well dressed man goes after her, here they are, two businesspeople chasing this bus through Picadilly Circus. The bus keeps going, the controller is yelling, bus our lady is focussed and keeps on task, shes broken into an all out sprint now, she throws out a hand, take a running leap and grabs the pole on the back of the bus, flings her briefcase on and still in mid air, on just plants one leg on the back of the bus. It was like a scene from a western  where they chase down a train. But are we all so excited that we have forgotten about our man? Hes working his way to the bus, ever increasing in speed these two have chased this bus for about 50 meters. He flings his briefcase to the lady on the bus, and she reaches out her hand, but all in vein, it accelerates away and he is left in the middle of a very busy road. It was one of the strangest things i have ever seen in my life. Dont be surpirsed if they were actually filming for the next James Bond, and that scene is in the next film. Renaud looked over to me, and asked: 'do we have to do that to get a bus?'.

We spent that evening having a really nice Indian meal and then going to the pub. We managed to get Renaud to undergo a 'cultural experience' in trying the famous warm English beer. Haha, he didnt last long, and dad and i downed them and didnt feel good that night. We ate proper pub food which was also good fun, and talked and everything. It was a really enjoyable night, i was also looking forward to tomorrow because i was meeting the Hogans with mum and dad, friends from Sydney and that would also be good.
