8th February - Living Together

Now i have lived with people in the past - ok that was a pretty obvious one, but what i mean is that i have been hosted in various places and stayed and roomed with people for long periods of time, i am used to it. That does not mean, however, that the same things dont annoy me when i do it.

Dont get me wrong i am loving the camp and having a great time and all, and everyone is really great, especially the guys rooming with me - Lee from the Blue Mountains, Michael from Tasmania, and Justin from New Zealand. Its just that i think when you spend enough time with someone anyone can really get on your nerves. I think that the fact that we had been getting a serious lack of sleep didnt help either. Nothing major went wrong i think i just got a bit short on a few occasions and said some things maybe in fact, yes i shouldnt have. The whole situation made me realise, however, that you really have to watch what you say. I mean we are all from different backgrounds and family situations and something that might be considered normal in my family might be completely offensive to someone else. I have had experiences in the past and learnt to deal with this and i am now a very good judge of situations and know when to act, to speak and to hold my tongue. But us being human, there are sometimes when you dont think before doing something.

What doesnt help is the fact that i have almost developed an artform out of baiting people, haha, Renaud will know what i am talking about! But one of my favourites is the shower. A 25 minute shower as opposed to 5 can do more harm than any name calling you can ever imagine. I mean sure this is a mild treatment, but nasty all the same. I dunno, im waffling on a bit, but i think what im trying to say is that i really learnt from rooming with these guys. You have to be yourself when you are that close to others, but if that means that being you will pee someone off then, whilst still keeping true to yourself, find the things that annoy them and try to control them. Im not sure that makes any sense, i am kind of thinking on paper, or cyber paper, haha, whatever!

The other thing i learnt is that you really have to deal with things straight up, no stuffing around. I mean things get blown way out of proportion when people do nothing about them, and only fuel them. It really bites however, to get something said about you that started from nothing, and grows into something else. I know ive done that but recieved it too. How come i didnt get all this earlier??? haha!
