| 31st May - Viva la France (again)! After leaving the Netherlands we heading East and South, back to France, this would now make the fourth time we had passed through France. This time we were headed to Strasbourg. I didnt know much about Strasbourg, except that it sounded like Salzburg, so with deeply in mind, we set off, and headed for Strasbourg. I was particularly excited about heading to Strasbourg though. Before we went on the Eurotour i emailed a friend who lives in France asking if there was a possiblity that we could catch up. I said that i would be in Pars on so and so a date and we were staying here and if she wanted to meet up and go out for dinner. She said she would love to and that she was really excited about the possibilty of seeing me, the only problem was that she lived 400 km from Paris! I forgot about it, and we left for the Eurotour. Halfway through though i looked at the itinerary and i saw we were heading to Strasbourg, where Amandine lived! I couldnt believe my luck, i had no idea we were headed there, and i messaged her straight away. She was over the moon and we organised to meet. I met Amandine in the Rugby World Cup, she was the singer from France. Amandine is a hard one to describe. You start with the fact that she is one person who got way to many than their fair share of good looking genes! But she is the nicest, warmest and most kind person you will ever meet. I got along so well with her in Sydney, and it was a joy to meet up with her on the other side of the world. We set it up so that she would come to the hotel we were staying at (which was a little out of town) and we would go out for dinner. To my surprise, she had staying with her at the time, and out of complete coincidence, the singer from Scotland, who is also a great mate. We went for a drink with Amandine, Elyssia (from Scotland) and her friend and Amandines boyfriend Greg (yes i know life is unfair sometimes). We sampled a few beers at a local brewery and then went to their favourite restaurant - a typical small Alsacian restaurant well away from the typical tourist places on the other side of town. The food was incredible, so simple and tasty. I had chicken in a mushroom and pepper sauce, the girls shared a really nice fish and Greg had what seemed like an entire leg of ham. We drank local wine, and then had a huge array of desserts. One of the best meals ive ever had. From there we went to a club to see some friends of Amandine in a band. We had such a good evening. There is nothing like seeing old friends. We talked about the Rugby and our time in Sydney together. It was the best evening. I even got to chat to Greg for a long time, and despite being the luckiest guy in the world, he is a really nice guy, and we spoke about everything, Amandine had already told me he was my mirror image, and she couldnt have been more right! But i was meeting up with them the next night, which i couldnt wait for! Paz |
