| 30th July - Beautiful Verona - part iii I got up a little early to go and take a walk. It is an incredibly easy city to walk around, mainly due to the fact that it is so small! But at the same time so pleasant to walk around in. The architechture is very special and unique. One of the things i like the most is the churches. They are built in a very special and unique style. Due to influence during the baroque and late baroque periods from North Africa upon Italy, especially in this reason, and especially brought through trade, the churches are built in a uniquely Veronese style that mixes the african style and italian. The product is wonderfully colourful churches, that have alternating bands of brown or dark red and white stone running the whole way around. It is only typical in Verona and is something very interesting. The effect is stunning. I returned later and had breakfast, and then headed out with Michi to do some of the other sites. We mainly just cruised around, we did see the Giusti gardens, which were a sight to remember. It was built to enhance a local house, and the most stunning mix of typical french and italian styles produces a wonderful garden, complete with a maze, which made me even more happy! But just wandering through these incredible gardens was something i will never forget. I loved it. Around lunch we returned and flicking on the TV what did i see, but Australia vs SA in the Tri-Nations. Now you can probably imagine my reaction having not seen a rugby match in almost 7 months! It was pure bliss to see the Aussies run over the Springboks with 4 minutes to go. I was seriously on a high then, and after lunch i was still feeling so lucky that i had got to see a game! In the afternoon we went our seperate ways and i cruised through doing a bit of people watching (as voyeuristic as that sounds!) and basically took in all the sights. I had a fantastic time sitting on a street corner and having an icecream (sorry gelato!) and just watching all the fashionable people cruising past. I have said it many times before but i will say it once more, the italians are the most ultra fashionable people on earth. That said, they have got it a little wrong i think. I mean, when you see an ultra classy family walking down the street all with mullets you know its a problem. I dont mean have hearted mullets either, im talking the full ball, the two little kids and everything. I still laugh senlessly at these people who think they are seriously exclusively cool. If only they knew that Peter from Full Frontal was the only person that made that haircut look good! (ok sorry Michael Bolton as well!). But i love it, these people who are so fashionable to the point where it inteferes with their lives, i mean, wearing obviously impractical clothes just for the sake of fashion. How many countries in the world can you do that in? You gotta love them. |
