| 30th July - Beautiful Verona - part ii We arrived in and cruised into the hotel. It was a very old hotel and one of the finest in Verona. We checked into our room and it was a beautifully decorated old room with stunning furniture and fabrics, and glassware from Murano in Venice, it doesnt get much better than that. We had arrived quite late in the day, but i still wanted to get a quick look around, so we set off, Michi and I, and went to see the sights. I was so surprised when i discovered how beautiful a place Verona really is. Of course it has the historical ties with Commedia dell'atre and more famously, the birthplace for the Romeo and Juliet story, but it is more than that. It is a very small, very quaint and incredibly beautiful town. I loved every minute of it, just cruising around, and taking it all in. The first thing we saw was the main square and then went round the corner to the house of Juliet. It was so cool, there are love letters and notes stuck up around the whole place, very romantic. You can even see the balcony where the story was supposedly played out. We read the love notes and enjoyed being in there. Most of the notes say things like: Darryl (haha ok i didnt see the name Darryl!), i love being with you i want to love you for the rest......blah blah. Anyway, i saw the best note there. Very simple: Dear Giulietta, Can you please help me get some ass on my trip? Thanks, Love Alex. Now thats my idea of a love letter! Haha, but it is an incredible place and we had such a nice time soaking up all the romantic atmosphere and feeling. From there we saw a lot of things from all around town. We walked along the river and saw the Castelvecchio, which was really impressive, especially as we saw it just as the sun was going down and it was getting dark. We saw some of the old Roman ruins and a few other things around town. It was a really pleasant evening. One of the great things about being in Italy is that you can eat Italian food. I know that sounds dumb, but eat italian in Austria and Australia and then eat it is Italy. I can assure you theres a big difference! We had a really nice meal that night, and rolled into bed looking forward to a fantastic day coming. |
