| Pascal Herington's Rotary Trip | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| 24th June - On with the Olds In the words of Forest Gump, we were like peas and carrots again. Ok so there were three of us, so i suppose it was like peas, carrots and corn, or whatever goes with peas and carrots. It was so nice to be with them. I couldnt stop talking and smiling, im sure mum and dad can vouch for that! Especially the talking part! We left Graz the following day, on our own little Eurotour. From Graz we headed to Salzburg. The drive from Graz to Salzburg is very pretty, and my parents (especially mum!) were very taken aback by the mountains and beautiful fields along the way, it is very much 'Sound of Music' country. I told them every story i could think of, and asked every question about home and their trip that i could. I just talked and talked and talked. I couldnt think of anything else to do, there was so much to tell. I must have talked for three days straight. But being with them was the best feeling in the world. We got to Salzburg and checked into a hotel that we had previously picked in the tourist guide (in the car on the way there). And had a look around Salzburg, it is a very nice place, and i took my mum to the big gardens there, i knew she would love that, and i was right! We had a typical Austrian meal, and sat in the square for a long time just talking and being around eachother. I still was coming to grips with how lucky i was to be seeing them. My parents! They were here. They could see my long hair, hear me speak german and i could actually talk to them without it costing $0.30 a minute! The next day was spent looking around Salzburg, we went up to the Festung, which is the huge castle in Salzburg. We stopped in at a church along the way, and you needed 50 euro cents to see the romanesque paintings at the back, being short on change, mum slipped 1 Kuna (Croatian currency!) into the machine, the lights came on. Dad proceeded to drop his remaining Kunas into every change machine in that ?he could find in the church. Every single light came on and the place was lit up like a christmas tree! My parents found this was a great way to get rid of currency that you cant change, and thus proceeded to try a Kuna in every vending machine, ticket machine and toll machine in Europe. We were pleasantly surprised when we found that Kunas are a very versitile currency and seem to work everywhere!?????????????????????????????? But we really enjoyed Salzburg, it is such a gorgeous city, and everything it is made out to be, and more! We left Salzburg for Wien (Vienna) and although i had not had a good impression the first time, i was going with an open mind, and really looking forward to having a good look around there. Paz ? |
