    Pascal Herington's Rotary Trip
24th January - Recovery!!!

The matura ball last night was absolutely awesome, it was like the Blue and White, only MASSIVE! There were over 2500 people there. It was really crazy. And there are different rooms where everyone goes, like there is a ballroom dancing room and a disco room (discoteque is not as dorky a word as it is back home, kinda like a dance party). And right in the middle, they get everyone in the main room, and form a bit circle and do a whole series of dances that the students have prepared. All the girl graduates are in white dresses with long gloves, and the guys are in tuxes, with white shirts and white ties, it is very formal.

We went to a cocktail party beforehand which was good fun, although, as i have mentioned in the past, they dont eat dinner here. And if they do, it will be like a roll or some cold cuts or soup, but nothing really substantial. I hadnt eaten prior to going out, and the food at the cocktail party was pretty lame, so it turned out that i hadnt eaten since lunch. Im sure you can guess the rest of the story, but it was a good night all in all.

After a seriously long, surely non-Rotary certified sleep in this morning, i had a great conversation with my family over breakfast/lunch about everything, it was nice to just talk. Speaking of that (haha, pun completely intended, ah dad, your bad sense of humour would be proud!), i spoke to home this morning, which was awesome, i think just nice to touch base, mum, ill be home soon!!! haha!

The weather has been good, it got a bit colder recently but the days wildly in temperature, for example, yesterday was -9C all day, but today got up to 12C. Its ok though.

I went for a run the other day and just watching people as i went by was facinating. As much as i dont like to generalise, i think you can almost pin down a European ethic. Maybe ethic isnt the right word. Its just that their way of life is so incredibly different from home, not just in the obvious things like food and weather the way they go about things, and their outlook. Haha, but only mid paragraph and im already generalising! Things like the way that people never worry about things, or how at school, you sit down and learn for a few hours, like solidly learn, then you have the afternoon off. It just seems to make sense to me, at least. You could say it is more sophisticated and some people even say its more classy, but i just think that it is works. For example, the amount they seem to pack into their days is phenomenal! But it is nice to be in a different environment for a while.

Alls still good!
