| 18th May - Viva Italia The second day in Lido de Jesolo was just as awesome. In the morning we got up for an early morning run on the beach and then went and got coffee on the main street. It was cool to see the town come to life. It is quite a big place, but very very touristy, and we were there in the off season, i cant even imagine how busy it gets in high summer. But a pretty little town all the same. About 10 we hopped on the bus and headed for the port, we were going to see Venice! This was the excellent thing about this eurotour, all the places I had ever wanted to go, all the places i had ever wanted to see, and the things i had dreamed about seeing were all on the program. Anyway, we jumped on a boat and headed for Venice. On the boat over the weather was great and so i headed to the back to get more sun, i found a couple of the other fellas there talking to some Italians, who spoke no english. Our boys spoke no Italian, so it was an interesting conversation to say the least! But it was good fun. Then i thought that i do speak a little italian, well to be more precise, i sing a little italian, so one of the guys suggested i sing for them. Haha, they went nuts, but it was a very easy way to get in with the locals. We found a guy who spoke both languages and he told us that i had been promised to their 18 year old daughter. Haha, it was a laugh and a half, but a really nice bunch of people, and its incredible how much fun we had, and we couldnt even say a word to eachother! But Venice rocked! It was as cool as i expected. I loved it! Seeing all the sights and just being in the town was awesome. We even took a trip out to Murano, which is the international centre for glass making. That was cool too, we saw a guy make a horse out of glass under a minute, it was awesome. More generally speaking though, it was cool the way that this society spends money on itself. That was a really interesting thing to notice, not just the clothes or the designer things, but the culture, the willingness to fork out 100 more for the same thing, just because it has a name on it. For me, it is indulgence and wastefullness at its best, but a really interesting thing to notice. However, the rest of the afternoon in Venice was just as good. We watched heaps of the glass-makers, and chilled out, just taking everything in. I think that was the thing to do, just take in everything, i mean photos are good, but the feelings you feel and the experiences you go through are the things that define your existance, and i was determined to not let this trip slip by, just taking photos. In the words of Eric Bana, from the Castle, 'it was all about the culture, culture was everywhere, they had kickboxing, twenty four hours......a day!' ok maybe not that last bit, but you get my point! The late afternoon was spent in Jesolo chillin out by the beach and then that night having a party on the beach, it was great fun, again, just good to spend the time with the other exchange students.
