| 16th May - Eurotour Begins! I am lucky enough to have toured in the past with sporting teams and musical groups, and touring with people your age, in a big group, is such an exciting way to travel. It also has its drawbacks, as you spend an incredible amount of time with the same people, but with all that in mind, i set of on my eurotour, with bright eyes, open ears and camera at the ready! We left from Salzburg quite early in the morning and i was happy that Justin had reserved a seat next to him for me. That was a good thing, because there were 59 people on the bus, and 60 seats! So it was always going to be a tight squeeze, but sititng next to a mate was a good thing, i reckon it would keep me sane! We had seen a little of Salburg the day before and we saw a little more on the way out, which was nice, i think im coming back here with my parents, which will be awesome, i would love to visit here once more. The bus trip was ok, the bus was quite comfortable, and it was a good chance to chill out and listen to some music (i wasnt really up for the intense socialising that was going on all over the bus). Justin and i were happy to sit there, argue about rugby (i still think Phil Waugh is the best breakaway in rugby, Andrew Mehrtins is finished and Justin Marshall is not that good!) and watch the pretty scenery go by. One cool thing about the whole eurotour, was that we really never knew the entire program, which meant we very often didnt know where we were going, which was a cool thing, not knowing what incredible landmark or world famous place you would see the next day. As for this day, about 3 hours into the trip i heard the word 'beach' mentioned. I couldnt believe my ears, we were actually heading to the beach. Arriving in Lido de Jesolo, we realised that this was a massive resort town, with hundreds of hotels, and umbrellas lined on the beach as far as the eye could see. It was a beautiful beach, and i dont think ive ever got changed quicker and hopped in the water. It was so nice to swim in the sea. We had a big game of soccer on the beach, what became known along the trip as the Latinos vs Whities match. Despite their far superior speed, skills and determination, the Latinos lacked one thing. Heart. The Whities were not the best team, haha in fact you would be hard pressed to find a worse team, but noticing that there was a serious lack of rules in this game, on of the aussies put a great hit on one of the latinos. It marked the transition of this game from soccer to rugby, which suited us perfectly. However, in the end, within the rules of soccer, the Whities provailed and took the match 7-6. But the town was gorgeous, and it was awesome to chill out on the beach. We went out that night, and the night life rocked! Justin and I paid a stupid amount (i think about 6) for a stubbie of XXXX. I can honestly say that after drinking Austrias finest, having a cold aussie beer was the best beer i had drunk all year. We had the next day there as well, so we stayed out pretty late looking around, meeting the italians, and generally having a great time together. Paz |
